KeymasterWell I have played about an hour with the Beatmix 4 at Musikmesse.
I really liked the unit as it is well made, the plastic is really high quality polycarbonate (or something similar) and it feels good and looks good.
All the faders worked really well and the jogwheels feel almost as nice as those on the Terminal Mix.
I much prefer the lower profile jogs on the Beatmix to the SB, but that is subjective and I know loads of people who prefer Pioneer style jogs.
The multiple pad modes on the Beatmix and the gain controlls make it a winner in my book. Also including the full version of Serato DJ in the release of the Beatmix 4 is a hit in itself, it is loads of bang for your buck.So while both are good controllers, I would prefer the Beatmix 4 for a full 4 channel layout, included Serato DJ, gain control directly and excellent jogs and faders. Also the crossfader on the Beatmix is really comfy for scratching.

ParticipantThanks Terry. I am leaning towards the Beatmix because of the four channels, I just wasn’t sure mostly because of jogwheel quality and didn’t want to think I would be missing out if I didn’t go with the Pioneer.

ParticipantSooooo..received my Beatmix 4 yesterday, site that I got it from were really good(dunno if I can mention which one) having a 3 week old baby I haven’t had much chance to play yet but so far I’m really impressed. Nice jogs and faders, lovely pads and it seems tight with the software. I can’t see how you would get better features or build for the money I’m a happy man.

ParticipantPlease do give us an update, I have been waiting forever for a Terminal Mix 8 🙁 have even started reconsidering other controllers or something else all together in the meantime… congrats on the baby, they sure do make getting in practice time a little more tricky… like the looks of the lit ring around the jogs on the Beatmix, one thing I might wish for once I get my TM8 is some kind of position indicator on the jogs.
Chuck or Terry, also wondering if it’s OK on DDJT forums to mention specific vendors we have gotten something from. I have ordered from a couple places in the states and have previously thought about mentioning them in posts about the products I purchased. If memory serves, I don’t think that I did, but for future reference it’d be handy to know DDJT’s policy on this sort of thing. For instance, mentioning a retailer because you found a good price on something, or linking to a product page on a retail site asking for opinions or advice before making a purchase, etc.June 4, 2014 at 2:28 am #2035702isaidicanshout
ParticipantOP can you tell me where you ordered your Beatmix 4 from? I cannot find any place that has it in stock! I ordered it from BHPhotoVideo and it said 7 days at first, and now my order says it won’t ship until July!

ParticipantHi,
Thanks I’m still struggling to get some time in on it but really enjoying every minute so far, it just works. The one thing I would maybe say is that I’d like the jog wheels to have sat a little higher like pioneer’s do but having no problems beat matching so that’s probably a slight preference thing. Although Serato is what it is and performs well (HP laptop by the way) I prefer the waveforms on mixvibes cross and the track preview feature that Serato doesn’t seem to have ? Mods…. Would it be OK to state where I ordered it from ?June 17, 2014 at 9:43 am #2037749Terry_42
KeymasterYeah for helping you can post that, we do not consider that advertising.
Serato does feature a preview, but it is called “prep”. See the Serato manual at serato.com
I love the stacked waveform display since Serato Scratch hehe (all waveforms of all 4 decks stacked above each other).Yeah jogwheels are preference. People that come from vinyl (like myself) seem to get along better with low profile jogs like the reloop controllers have and people that come from CDJs seem to prefer the Pioneer style jogs (duh they are the same profile hehe).

ParticipantAh thanks I’ll look for that as I said times not in my side right now ! I pre ordered it from djkit.com and would recommend they called me to let me know it was in stock, really friendly and delivery was rapid and free. Hmmmmm….mother and baby fast asleep, kitchen practice session fingers crossed !
