ParticipantI think Don Anderson’s analogy is great. I’ll remember it was 1994 and the guys still clinging to the 80s hair bands looked like they forgot the ship sailed. They looked like guys in the 80s who still wore platform shoes and bell bottoms, thinking the 70s would never die.
I get some people are conservative, but when it comes to the DJ thing I always saw the DJ realm as a push for new technology. People hated on CDs back then mainly because of how many CDJs would use P2P networks to download all their music while vinyl guys were paying money for music. Thankfully when MP3 stores opened it got better.
I still love being able to go play with just a laptop and a midi control. No more worrying if the club’s gear is working or not.

ParticipantWell shit, I must’ve really forgot that the ”ship sailed” then, I listen to primarily classical music lol. I tend to be extremely conservative about music, because I find the beauty in music to be demonstrated in the marriage of pathos and logos. As time progresses, music hasn’t necessarily gotten worse, but it’s become more and more simplistic. To one who appreciates the mathematical aspects of music, Grunge/Hair Metal/ Disco/ ”Bandwagon” music offers little-to-nothing.
I tend not to inference on human nature, for every attempt comes off as a glaring overgeneralization. If I were, however, to make one, it’d be more along the lines of ”people are social creatures who find greater strength in symbiotic relationships. They are more willing to change their outer/inner appearance based on perceived acceptance, whether intentional or subconscious, rather than focusing on being individualistic or different (although consciously, people feel a desire to be special). The introvert is the anomaly, as opposed to the extrovert.”

I always found it funny for as much money as those Pioneer mixers cost, they couldn’t handle wear and tear.

True, but in their defence many are seeing hours of action most night of the week. I host a party at one spot where the vestax mixer is almost as old as I am and still works great! They just don’t build tech tough like they used to haha

ParticipantI still have my Vestax PCV-275. Doesn’t have the bells/whistles of a Pioneer, but it’s a beast. Metal build and can take punishment…like a weekend outdoor rave with loads of dust flying around.
IMHO with Pioneer you’re mainly paying for the FX and the name. If you’re mainly using the effects in your software like I do, then it seems to be a waste of money.
We are jumping on a tangent here though.

ParticipantMy sync stays on I don’t care what anyone says, but what do I know I’m just a newb. Seriously though, even though there’s a level playing field now when it comes to beatmatching, you still need to know what to play and what songs mix well w/each other. No?

Fair point, people (sheeple) follow trends and fashions blindly, getting reassurance and security and safety in numbers. Those who are brave enough to stand out from the crowd are the exception to the rule. You could argue I suppose that those who are first to try something new are the exception, and those who are brave enough to not follow the crowd when they move to something new are exceptional also if they believe they are doing the right thing.
