I’m a 70’s/80’s fan and tbh most of it goes down well at a party. 70’s play all the big disco hits (abba, chic, chaka khan, odyssey, MJ, so many others). YMCA always is a favourite amongst all people. As for 80’s is all the end of that disco era coming into more electronic club sounds (eurythmics, frankie goes to hollywood, madonna, More MJ, too many to put into words!) Literally thousands of sounds to choose from in that (60’s – chart of yesterday) category. Most people like the most well known stuff so if your unsure what to play, just play the biggest tunes of that decade can always be a good indicator if they want more of the same or not! 🙂

Just Google Top 25 songs of 1980, 1981, 198x, etc to give you a starting point for music to supplement your collection if you are missing anything.

80’s Freestyle music usually goes over well too.

Now That’s What I Call Music have been making compilations of popular music for many years – I have a big collection of them, which are great for DJing mixed age group parties like Weddings, Birthday parties, all family events – they generally use child friendly radio edits with no swearing too. Schooldisco collection is good, Capital Gold Legends and you sometimes get useful collections free with Sunday newspapers, as some songs stand the test of time better, and oldies that are currently in/out of fashion come up there.
Listen to radio shows and write down what they are playing – they have researchers employed as well as professional DJs – sometimes they’ll have playlists on their websites

    Hi,

You can always google 538 Dance Smash Hits. It’s a pretty clear list of all the big hits of the 2nd half 90s til now.
Especially if you take the “Best Of” year double albums, 30 CDs will get you almost 20 years of danceable hits.

There is a similar series called Hitzone, which is more Top 40 stuff. So that will have more varying styles of (mostly undanceable :-)) music.

Since it is a Dutch series, there will be a higher ratio of Dutch performers (although most are in English), which includes the great Armin van Buuren, Tiesto and Afrojack, just to name a few.

Clearly it portrays the Dutch dance seen, but with the world gone global the last 20 years, I believe the difference have gotten smaller and smaller between countries/scenes/markets.

    Greetinx,
    C.
