For larger venues I’d rather rent what I needed, but for purposes of small gigs, house parties of less than 75-100 max people I was looking into getting the EV ELX112p.

Are the Behringer B215D’s more so an entry level set up compared to the EV’s? I always thought the EV’s were entry level.

It would be nice to get the Behrs and save up get the EV’s later down the road, but what do you guys think is the best idea; get and use one EV for those smaller gigs and until you’re able to afford getting a second EV. Continue the quest and get a sub, OR simply get a pair of Behinger B215D’s for the same purpose (same price point of 1 EV) and add a sub later?

I use the B212D with a B1800D sub and it sounds great. I’ve never come close to having to max the volume and it sounds better than what the larger mobile DJ businesses in my area use. I would say it’s fair to call it an entry level setup but it serves my purposes well and I think it would do it for you also.

I actually saw a live band last Saturday using B212Ds for their PA. Well, the singer sounded like Trent Reznor via a megaphone which was sad as this was an R&B act.

    EV will sound better.
In PA system: You (almost) always get what you pay for. There are no wonders and no miracles that will make a 200 bucks speaker sound like a 10k line array.

I’ve got the ELX115Ps and they sound awesome.

If you’re not planning to get a subwoofer right away, I would recommend getting the 15s instead of the 12s, they have better punch in the low end.

I just realized something. I read where the EV ELX series are not dependable for outdoor use, but does anyone know if this is just specific to leaving them out in the sun or if they overheat standing under an outdoor tent during the summer where temps can get up to 100 degrees?

From what I’ve read this only occurs in direct sunlight, but I haven’t used mine outdoors yet, so I can’t tell you for sure.

You get what you pay for. BUT i have a buddy who owns 2 Berh 12″‘s with a Harbinger 15″ 300w sub. That setup does his 100-200person fraternity parties just fine. now if we are doing a much bigger hotel party or some such, we’ll use my Yamaha/JBL setup.
