Since moving to digital, it has helped with my spontaneity as I now load up the history from my last show at the venue and make sure I’m not repeating mixes. Beyond that, I rarely prepare sets in advance – although from what I read on sites such as this, I do get the sense that I may be in the minority with that.

As to what I pick next – it has to fit well with what is currently playing (be it a mix, a hard drop or whatever else I’m trying to pull off) and most of the time it will hopefully pump up the crowd more than the last track (unless I’m resetting, in which case it is something intentionally placed to recycle the floor a little).

Depends on how I feel, how things are going.. the crowd, vibe etc.. Planning sets is a ridiculous concept, especially if your playing out.

Pulling out that rare/old track you forgot you had at the perfect time is a great feeling

Personally I never pre-plan a set, it’ll go out the window in the first 15 mins I’ve found. Knowing the tracks is the key for me. I might have an idea of what I’ll start and finish with and maybe what I may like to drop in but otherwise just get stuck in.

i have a few certain tracks i know blend well and will move the floor and i keep those in mind when im playin… but most important i read th ereaction of the dancefloor and try not to alienate anyone..making sure i do what i was asked and then some

I used to prepare sets but not anymore crowd may not like a song then you have to deviate form it. Now with traktor 2 I use intro and outro markers (not necessary at the beginning or the end of the song) alone with # 8 cue at any point in between with bars count before a drop or break in the comment area. This with mixed in key i can mix any song at any time in any order. A lot of work to get to this point but is worth it.
