    I remember back in the day, some producers would make “megamix” vinyls that generally played as short as 6 minutes to as long as 20 minutes. They were specifically designed for DJs to use as a faster moving hitmix. Remix services still make these as well.

    Here’s a few examples:

    I honestly don’t see an issue with DJs using those or similar things like. I don’t even see a problem if it’s one DJ all night and the place is empty (because it’s early) so he/she tosses on a mix CD he/she made.

    I only have issue when a DJ plays another DJ’s mix CD, demo CD, etc. when he/she should be DJing or at least playing their own mix.

    I share the opinion that playing other dj’s mini-mix sets is a no-no. But I play lot of mash-ups, I must admit that sometimes I got a few parts of my sets that are pure mash-ups mixed up and can go across a lot of genres in less than what it took a night to do such thing.

Its not that I try to act like its mine its just that sometimes what ever that certain dj makes is just too insane not to play. The other reason I play another Djs mix is if its longer mix maybe 10-15 minutes and I do that just to relax after 3 or 4 hours at a gig. Anybody else do this?

    Hello my Friend :);
    It looks like you got a bit ‘Bashed’ here (or so it seems to me);
    But; there is an Alternative to when you say the other ‘DJ’s Mix is Too Insane Not to Play’;
    And that would be to find the Tracklist for that particular 15 minutes or so; get those Tracks; and them Mix them Yourself; as I am Sure you will be just as Capable as the DJ you are ‘Emulating’ into Creating this ‘Insane Mix’ yourself; and as it will have your ‘Personal Stamp’ on it; you could even make it ‘More Insane’ than the Original DJ ?
    I Feel this is Genuinely Possible; and will Boost Your Own Confidence Massively 🙂 🙂

    I agree with Emma – if you hear a DJ pull off a great mix there’s nothing wrong with getting those tunes and trying to emulate it – that’s how we learn, and you can’t copyright a mix! 🙂

    That’s partially how I shop.

    I’ll listen to a live set from a DJ I really like and end up buying at least 25% of the playlist.

    Honestly, if another Dj made a mix and you play it, it takes the whole fun out of the art.Djin is about being spontaneous.Now I admit, I have played a song that was remixed by another Dj,(song is like 3 minutes) but not a whole pre mix that is like 10 -15,20 minutes long, etc.

    I think playing mashups, remixes of single tracks from other DJs are a-ok. But whole DJ mixes are a no-no for me
