As Vinny said – radio mixes generally have very short intros out outros. Biggest thing is radio mixes will always be heavily censored for language, to the point it is sometimes almost a different song (best example still is BEP’s “Let’s Get Retarded” becoming “Let’s Get It Started”). Unless you are playing to minors, or are working in an environment that demands censorship, I would recommend avoiding the radio cuts.

Radio edits can allow you to keep things moving on the dancefloor for punters with small attention spans but you have to adjust your mixing style and sometimes it may be difficult to mix from original/extended/club mixes of songs in to radio edits/versions/cuts as there may be moments of dead beats. Original mixes were made for DJs to blend together whilst Radio edits are made to cut the song down to only a few minutes for radio play or for censorship, as Todd said above.

Radio mixes are as says. They’re 3-4 minutes long so they play quick. Plus they are “cleaned up” for the airwaves.

I’ll usually put radio versions of EDM tunes I love into my iPhone for my own enjoyment. I also agree they can be useful if you want to play things shorter. Perhaps remix them on your own to add intros/outros.

I tend to use them a lot when I play mini-sets (15-20 minutes between a band and a brazillian dancing girls show thing) at one of my residencies, it’s a good way to fit lots in and generally the clients have stupidly short attention spans.

It does change the way you mix though, I tend to use beat loops I’ve sampled or found between to give me a bit of room to mix, otherwise loop the endings of songs, tease stuff in or just straight out cut it.
    Keeps you on your toes.

The best is when the extended version is similar to the radio. I remember when Guru Josh remade and rereleased “Infinity”, I hated that the extended version did not have the vocals…so I edited it. Played out nicely.
