ModeratorHey Danny,
Good to see you back in the digital dj fold.
First off, if it has been a while since you looked at the software, it is definitely worth checking out Serato (making major leaps) and MixVibes Cross. There’s been a lot of significant changes in both in recent months/releases.
Second, I am not aware (from being on here occassionally anyway) of any serious problems with “most” controllers with jog wheels in Traktor.
There has never seemed to be a greater choice of controllers in all budget areas from low to very high. On top of that there are several options if you don’t like all-in-one. So there should be some things around the 700-800 dollar mark that could tickle your fancy.
Good luck with the search.

KeymasterI think Chuck he is referring to the fact that Traktor does not have as tight jogwheel integration and latency as Serato, except with the NI controllers. Hence the NI controllers jogs are superior to any other controller for Traktor.
And yes this is still the fact.No the Terminal Mix 4 is not really working well with Traktor. Lots of compromises you have to do. I hugely prefer Serato though so no problem for me 😉
You can always go to reloop.com send them an Email and ask to quote you a dealer that will have the Jockey.September 17, 2013 at 3:05 pm #44309danny.slag
MemberThank you guys for the links and the help.
Yeah, I was referring to how if you use traktor you’re giving up tight jogwheel response with anything other than an s2 or s4, at least in traktor 2.0 that’s how it was.
I am willing to look into serato. Maybe with the reloop controller because I like it’s layout, although a vci380 looks really sexy too and is on sale right now for crazy cheap. My main concern with serato is back when I was fooling with tunes there were so few effects and so few things you could do with them. Being from ableton I tend to do a lot of effects tweaking and live parameter control to produce interesting sound and less cue point juggling. (although i would love to get better at that.)
The problem I’m having with my research is everything I can find to read is outdated. For example all the serato controller reviews refer to itch still. Although the more I read about how smoothly serato runs the more intrigued I am, and actually considering it.
does serato have more in depth effects now? can a vci-380 be used for other software as well, it would make me feel more comfortable to not be locked to one software with whatever controller I have.
so currently my options under 8 bills are:
traktor
S4 mk2
reloop remix 3 (minimal controls so lots of shifting)
reloop terminal 4 (sounds like not great with traktor)or serato:
vci 380 (serato only?)
reloop terminal 4

Participantjust my 2 cents, another option from a controllerboy standpoint 🙂
traktor
S2 mk2
Kontrol F1Gives way more control of Traktor’s “special sauce” (remix decks, and so many cool buttons). Personally I don’t use more than 2 decks, but really enjoy the controller geek stuff (think it fits better with the producer approach). And remember, as far as budget goes, Traktor and Serato software upgrades will cost 100/129 US – but Tractor Pro comes free with the S2/4.
Serato has come a great distance in a short time though, and agree with the above advice that it definitely deserves consideration.

MemberYou guys have been very helpful. Reading these forums is the best place for information I’ve found online. i have decided on the vestax vci-400 so that I have the option to use it with traktor or serato…and being a geek who loves mapping controllers to do strange things in ableton I like how open that hardware is.

You can always go to reloop.com send them an Email and ask to quote you a dealer that will have the Jockey.I agree with Terry on this, bought a TM4 to use with traktor, the loop and fx controls were very nice but a lot of the other stuff wasn’t very tight. Sold it and just waiting on a jockey 3 remix to arrive which I think will work better for me and bar the jogs( which I believe are not as tight as NI’s own gear to the software) the integration seems to be spot on. Also the bits I really liked on the tm4 will be present on the J3R… solid build too,

ModeratorHmmmm … here I was thinking Terry_42 is under the impression that the TM4 has the best jogwheels in the business. So we are saying just not with Traktor?
It’s a confusing world, lol.

KeymasterIndeed the TM4 has the best jogs, works extremely well with Serato, works very well with VDJ, works very well with Cross… but just not a fan with Traktor…
