What do you mean by 3000s, there is loads of Denon gear with 3000 in them…

With the 0 and 9 being close together on a keyboard, one would assume you made a typo and ment 3900 instead of 3000. However, the 3900 (which is an awesome moving platter media-player btw) is hardly “old” Denon gear. So, you would be talking about it’s original pre-predecessor, the actual DN-S3000. As with all Denon gear, build quality will be great, making buying used gear just a little less scary. It has plenty of functionality, but for example only has 1 hot cue if I am not mistaken.

Something else to take into account is that it is, obviously, an active (moving) platter unit. It’s really nice, if you have used turntables in the past. If not, I know DJ’s that came from CDJ-type players with static platters that really never could get used to active platters.

If you are in Europe, you might consider getting the Denon SC2900’s. Static platter like your currently players and that is where the comparison ends. They are currently priced ridiculously low, it’s truely a steal, considering you get a player that feature-wise is generally conceived to be between the CDJ-900 and CDJ-2000, with a build quality I personally would say is better than both of those players. Price is now just under 400 GBP or 475 Euro.

I own a pair (and paid quite a bit more for them) and they are absolutely wonderful units.

    Hope that helps.

ha, yeah actually. I was talking about the dn-s3000. I wont probably use alot of the effects and such on their newer stuff like the 2900.. But I would love a pair of the 3900 with the bigger platter and the ability to link it with other decks and the denon version of rekordbox.. That shit gives me a gear boner but thats wayy out of my price range right now. I just want the vinyl feel again with something cheap and bug free.

Again, my long experience with Denon gear is that it’s long lasting and service (at least in Holland) has been good. Remember that CD-players need regular (we had ours done yearly with heavy use, other use bi-annual should be ok) calibration to prevent read errors, slow loading time, slower track selection and such. Not sure how problematic it will be if you use timecode CDs though.

There’s a pair of 3000s for sale here in Holland for 300 euro (perhaps can be bid on for even lower price). Not clear if he wants 300 each (which I expect) or 300 a pair. Matching flightcase is another 80 euro, but you can buy it without. Just to give you an idea.

At 300 a piece, I’d spend the extra 175 a piece and forego the moving platter. The extra (midi) functionality of the 2900 and it being a new player … I couldn’t sell myself on the 3000s. Just my opinion.

p.s. the top surface of the SC2900s is actually real vinyl, so the feel is there. It’s just not spinning. And timecode for all major software is built-in. No need for Timecode CDs. You can use it Midi, DVS or Hybrid (depending on your wishes and the software).

Update: the price is probably for the pair after all. Found another one for 149,00 guaranteed, so nobody will pay 300 a piece.

I saw that the 2900’s dropped price on here a while ago but I could never find where.. I just checked amazon and it’s still a good $900.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems the drop is only in Europe.
