I own the iDJ Pro. Imho it’s the best (physical) way of integrating an iPad into your system ever. If you are worried about safety of your gear, I can tell you that it sits pretty safe in it’s cage.
All other iPad-capable systems seem to have the iPad as some sort of afterthought, stuck at an angle at the back of the unit. Just ready for some slightly drunk customer to lean on while asking for a ridiculous request. I have seen no bracket on any of those units that seems strong enough to withstand that kind of mistreatment. And if it doesn’t break, there is a serious chance of the iPad being knocked off.
Even if it sits there, it’s not rock solid. When you touch it, they all move (bounce if you like) a little bit on their bracket, taking away from the accuracy and the touch screen experience. The iDJ Pro on the other hand, feels like the iPad is part of the unit and touching it is exactly as stable as touching any of the knobs.
There are a few odd things, but I can understand the design features behind them:
* nudging with the jogs (outer ring) doesn’t function like it does with my other gear
* rotary channel volume knobs instead of faders, not a big issue, but I personally prefer faders
* “obligatory” use of the crossfader. I haven’t been able to locate the button to turn it off on the unit, it might be in software though. Having said that, it’s a really light x-fader AND … the cue button automatically switches over to the other side when you use it, which is a rather neat feature.
Hope that helps some.
