I’ve been using a Twitch for over a year now and have been pretty happy with it. I don’t scratch either, so the lack of jog wheels has not bothered me. As far as quality and reliability it has held up well. It’s a great two channel controller. I do wish it could handle 3 deck or 4 deck mixing from time to time. It also has multiple sampler banks, which is  a nice feature if you are into that.

Now, about the sound- that is an issue, but not a deal killer. The audio output level from the master-out is quite low compared to other controllers. The audio out from the booth output is a bit louder, so sometimes I run that to the PA of whatever venue I’m playing.

Either way, you will want to invest in a small pre-amp to boost up the signal cleanly. You can do it by jacking up the gains on your channels, but I do not recommend that route. I use a behringer xenyx 502 audio mixer for this. It’s small, and runs about $50. A real life saver. Plus, up to two other DJ’s can jack into it at the same time, so it makes transitioning from DJ to DJ in the booth much less traumatic.

Hope this helps. If you have other questions, let me know 🙂

Heh, Thanks. I really love the controller and find it brings something new to the table. I find scratching as a DJ is over-glorified and new digital techniques seem to be underrated. My brother, who is also learning to DJ, suggested scratching. But with a lot of mainstream electro-house stuff (Lets Be Friends, Razihel, Knife Party etc…) I don’t think that would sound so good at all (It would work well for him with his Neon Steve, Krafty Kuts and Bobby C Sound stuff, as that generally has quite a different sound to it, i’d be tempted to say it closely ties in with things like hip-hop. But i don’t listen to hip-hop, so that is based on an assumption).

Also, Any decent placed to get one? I’m tempted to sell my Instinct to get one, but its such a small controller that I can see it being really useful in those moments when you need to go as light as possible. Not to mention i’ll then have a back-up!

Well it is not all about scratching. But then I come from the old world of vinyl and CDJs… so why I use the jogwheels is actually a lot of nudging and skipping through songs when cueing up.

I just love to do this on jogwheels. But yes the twitch is awesome fun, it is just not my cup of tea for live gigging.

Daryl covered it off pretty nicely, I’d basically just echo what he said (including the output levels – don’t let that be a deal breaker!)

I moved from a budget Hercules controller (not the Instinct though) to the Twitch and it’s an absolutely massive leap in terms of quality, design, options and (most important of all) fun. I don’t miss jog wheels at all, the touch strips are accurate and it’s easy to manual beat match on them – I quite often use them to keep poorly beatgridded (I’m so lazy!) acapellas in time without a problem. And if you’re interested in controllerism, the Twitch is an obvious choice – the buttons are very responsive, well spaced and really fun to finger drum on.

If you haven’t had a play on one yet and you can get to a local store, go and have a play 🙂
