Distinctly underwhelmed – no touch strips, no independent mixer, no reason to upgrade.

I don’t have an S4 yet, but when I buy one, it’s gonna be the new one. No, it’s not that different, but it looks sweet and I can’t wait. 🙂

    Looks it still heavy…*umph
Guess if this thing work with Ipad, why in the world we want the Z1, while we can get this all-in-one solution right out of the box ?

Indeed I have to say I am a little underwhelmed too. Especially for the S4 I would have thought they come up with at least something as cool as the DDJ-SX or include some modes that rival the Jockey 3 Remix.

NI dropped the ball with these.

I actually really like them. They look pretty proper! Pre ordered the S4 last night to upgrade my S2 MK1 so the timing is perfect as I was in the market for a 4 channel controller.

Sure they could have added alot more bells and whistles but it is what it is.I suspect we’re going to see more developments coming from the actually software itself which will no doubt add more functionality to the new controller. Will the old models be able to support it? Most likely not right away based off Traktor’s history.

From a business persective I think NI was smart not to include the touch strips as that is what the new X1 MK2 is for.

Not enough changed to justify consideration for me. £659 in the UK I think, too much money for something that lacks their latest innovations and is still made out of plastic.

If you read the review by Phil on the blog, you’ll see that it’s significantly less plasticky than the mkI.

I have seen that and the videos that are doing the rounds. I want metal casing for that money…

No argument from me. I am a Denon guy. The MC6000 is a tank.

I had the S2 and i did not like the lay out of the pitch and the jog wheel. Plus it felt plastic to me and the jog wheel was too loose for me and also the controller is too small or tight.

I did like the functions and fx though and the extra banks. just not for me.

I use an S4 and was playing around with the new S4 @ BPM in Birmingham. My first thoughts were that it was just a modded version of what I had and I had to double take as to whether it was the old S4. On and working its a lot brighter as the S4 in my opinion sucks ford back light in a dark dj booth.

It felt a bit plasticky considering how much has been talked about improved build and solid feel. For me it doesn’t feel like a big enough jump and more of a slight improvement. granted I only had a 15 minute go on it I don’t know whether there is going to be any significant change to how it utilises the software.

I was a bit disappointed and expecting a touch strip

My new s4 mkII just arrived last week and I love it! Upgraded from the Kontrol S2 MK1. Havent tired it out with Traktor DJ yet as I need a camera connection kit but other than that Its a pretty solid piece of gear. Really like the new transport/cue point pads….very similar to that of the f1. These are much better suited for controllerism than on the Mk1.

but If I already had the s4 would I have upgraded to the MkII….nProbably not

Not everyone want’s to DJ on an iPad and the Z1 + X1 MKii are a match made in heaven for some small bar gigs
