Is it worth me trying a powered USB hub. That is what Reloop are suggesting?

So how will it connect to the Mac if I use a hub……. i’m confused!
Call me old fashioned but it still needs to be connected via USB 3 at the Mac end does it not?
    How will that solve anything?

Well if you buy a USB 2 hub and plug the uplink end into the Mac, the Mac USB port will default to USB 2 protocol, then the USB hub will act as an “intermediator” between the TM and Mac and hence all protocols will downgrade to USB 2, which is still more than enough speed for MIDI. Problem solved.
So yes even if it might be a problem on the chip side this may solve also all your problems.

Another thing that can be a problem in today’s high tech/high spec notebooks is powersupply. Often if you use both USB ports, they share the same controller AND often don’t offer full power on both ports when both are in use simultaneously. This is one problem the powered USB hub can solve (especially the better ones), it has it’s own power supply dimensioned in such a way that each port should have access to the full power necessary.

Especially for USB-powered controllers this can be an issue. Obviously not so for controllers that have their own power supply.

On my MacBook (with powered MC6000 controller) I always use a high quality USB hub. I either hook everything up to the hub (most of the time) or use one port for the controller and run everything else off the hub.

I have noticed on previous occassions that hooking up my external SSD or HD together with my controller has caused problematic behaviour from the USB-powered disks. With the USB-hub I don’t have such issues anymore. Everything works as suspected and all necessary LED’s shine brightly.

    Just my 2 cents.

I only ever use one USB port Chuck. I tried a MIDI control panel tip supplied by Sam at Serato and it seems to have improved it a bit. It still takes a bit of switching on/off randomly to get it going but seems to happen faster than before, and does not drop out. I managed a whole 1.5hr mix lastnight hahahaha

Its a weird one for sure, I may be wrong but it seems like the USB post is slowly “learning” to behave itself……can that happen???

I hear ya. It all sounds devilishly nasty to me … hope the hub helps!

After further investigation/dabbling, it appears if i start the controller 10 mins before I start Serato everything works just fine after a couple seconds of crate loading etc. No need for a USB hub then 🙂

Good to hear, but at the end of the day it’s a totally ridiculous situation of course.

Yes, you kind of expect things to work as the manufacturer intended.
    But in reality….. hahahaha
