I’d still hold off at least til the 8.1 release later this month

Don’t use Windows 8 for anything related to djing, a lot of programs and developers are still using windows 7 hence and are still experimenting with windows 8. I think windows 8 came out to early and at the wrong time, hence as Chuck said wait until the 8.1 release. The 8.1 pack will be similar to that of windows 7’s platform, and I think they’ll add the start menu button back to the taskbar.

Just to let you know you can speed up your pc with an SD card(readyboost compatible). Windows has a feature called readyboost(maybe called something else in windows 8), the way it works is by loading the cache on the SD card rather than the HDD(Hard drive) with makes the work load on your machine more easier to process). So if you have 12 gb of ram and you add a 8 gb SD and add readyboost it would almost be like you have 20 gb of ram, crazy right….. I used to be a nerd then I became a dj.

    Hey,

Agree with much of it, just a few points of attention:

    1) Windows 8.1 will bring back a version of the start button, but it appears that it will not be the same as the Win7 start button. A (in my eyes) preferable solution would be to use one of the available third-party tools that gets rid of the new GUI and brings back the actual Win7 start button and desktop.

    2) ReadyBoost is really a technique that is helpful if your computer DOESN”T have much RAM memory and it was easier/cheaper to add a USB-stick. Here is what a specialist says on the subject: So far, so good – but there’s a catch: USB storage is slower than RAM. It’s better to store SuperFetch data in your computer’s RAM than on a USB stick. Therefore, ReadyBoost only helps if your computer doesn’t have enough RAM. If you have more than enough RAM, ReadyBoost won’t really help.

More than 4GB of RAM qualifies as enough RAM, even for DJ-ing applications. Greetinx,C.

ReadyBoost will in most cases totally wank a DJ system. I recommend strongly against it, all my pals that tried it failed miserably.
Windows 8.1 will do nothing, you will have a start button that does the same as in Windows 8 clicking at the task bar, which is to bring up the Metro thing.

    I love my Mac…
