Yeah you could, the problem is that you’ll be working “blind” as there is no display of Stems waveforms etc. on the Traktor screen. Once they fix that, you can map pretty much anything to them.

I feel that until they bring stems showing on your computer screen it won’t have a big uptake. Native Instruments proprietary equipment to show these are just too bulky and expensive for me and I’m sure many others.

Perhaps it will be possible to use in Ableton easily in a similar (but different) way.

Hi Phil I bought a DDJ SZ a couple of weeks ago, if i ran Traktor on it, can i plug in a F1 or similar to use stems that way or is it not possible. I only use Serato and not that familiar with Traktor.

Hi Phil, what about the Akai APC Mini. could I map its lights to work like the ones in the Traktor F1?

@DJ Mixing In Style & Jay: Hi, while this IS the Digital DJ Tips forum and it belongs to the website of which Phil is the head honcho and while Phil is seen here on occasion, it’s for and by the readers. Addressing Phil directly here is not very effective 🙂

You have a way better chance of getting an answer to your questions from our readers and/or one of the two moderators.

Currently Traktor has no stems display by itself, so currently the ONLY controller that stems make sense is the S8.
NI said they will develop a stem display within Traktor, so when that comes along you can use it with any mappable controller.

After watching the video of Steve mixing stems for 2 hours I have to say I really dig what he did and I think that was the maximum you could do with stems currently… I am not impressed. He did not much that I could not do with a 4 deck controller mixing edits of the songs.
Same as with remix decks: Nice toy but rare to see anyone use them meaningfully apart from a presentation or demo.
So I will surely wait a year to see if this takes off.
