It’s been a while since I last used Traktor so can’t remeber about the record gain or if it has it’s own gain level or it’s controlled by the master gain. I think it controlled by the master so set that right and you should be good. I always re-mastered my recording in Audacity anyway to remove any clipping etc
Never used MediaMonkey but have tried other programmes with mixed results. The best thing to do is rip at the highest rate possible and/or purchase high quality tracks. If a track is poor quality to start off with there not really a lot you can do to improve the quality.October 12, 2012 at 3:05 pm #1013507Skosion
MemberThanks for your reply, Si Boogie.
I’m still getting my head around a lot of audio set-up stuff (it’s a whole new world of learning). Can you explain what you mean by setting the master gain correctly? I have some songs that are high rate rips but the volume is still a little low compared to some of my tracks. I did, however, just read an article about using the auto gain function in TP2. I have yet to check this out, maybe it will help when recording.
Also, just since you mentioned, can you give me a quick example of how you use audacity to remove clips from recorded audio?

ParticipantAuto gain will help to keep the audio level when one track is higher than the other.
On each EQ you have a gain control but right at the top of the window is the master gain control.
Check YouTube for DJ Tech Tool or Ean Golden for tips and tricks of Traktor. There may be some custom maps for the S2 over at DJ Tech Tools site.October 12, 2012 at 7:41 pm #1013521Hee Won Jung
ParticipantHey Bud…regarding your Traktor issues:
Here are some helpful tips to get the best Quality sound you can get:
First off go into your settings under mixer and take off limiter, auto gain, and set the headroom to 0dB.
Next goto your main screen that has your track decks…at the very top middle there will be your master output…set that so it is @ 12 oclock…that will be about -10dB
Now regarding songs that are at a lower dB overall…you can use programs like Media monkey or Audacity or whatever but honestly…if you are buying all your music the level differences are minor and SHOULD be adjusted with your gain knobs.
On your S2 you have 2 track decks and from top to bottom is Gain/High/Mid/Low/Filter
The gain knob on the deck will affect your overall gain. the Top Middle volume knob on the top middle of your S2 will affect your output volume from the controller to the Deck…this Knob does not affect master output which you originally set to -10dB, mind you if u are routing into a mixer you should not screw with this as it can cause your levels on the mixer to go into the red.
Keylock – If you are mixing music that is within 2-4 bpm of each other DO NOT USE keylock…keylock compresses your sound and with certian songs with sloppy mastering will make the songs sound dull or flat. Only use keylock when needed then turn it off.
The tips above will ensure that you have the BEST sounding qualitiy out of your S2 controller…NI makes decent gear…but their sound cards are not the greatest imo….passable yes…useable yes…but not amazing.
Regarding your music collection…Traktor does not save a copy of your music but just identifies the music you have within set parameters, file size, file name, etc. Then whenever u setup cue points, loops or what not it will automatically save them for next time…the way traktor reads the music files is actually pretty decent in that if u swap everything out to another computer you just need to import your music plus ur collection.xml and all your cue points and stuff will be switched to the new computer.
Now if you are trying to make your own samples and stuff there is an option within Traktor to Save all samples you make and will be located under Traktor/recordings/samples under your my documents. (PC User)

MemberThanks for both of your replys. I am slowly but surely getting on top of all of this.
Hee Won Jung, the S2 has no default filter knob. You can hold shift to use the gain knob as the filter. You can also change the preferences so that the gain knob is the default filter and holding shift will allow it to control gain, which is what I prefer to use.
I figured the S2 would be great for me as I am only learning to mix. But after just a few days I am starting to realise that I need more control!! The S4 was sadly outside of my current budget. I am playing with some mapping options and trying to find the best system to work for me.
Thanks again.
