I have two computers in my studio – one with my DJ software that is connected to all my DJ gear, and the second is just connected to the master outputs from my mixer. This second computer has software for recording and editing, as well as a program for broadcasting.

The biggest issue is what type of system the station is using. In my case the station is using ShoutCast technology and I connect with a program called EdCast. Once you know what they are using, it will narrow down how to go about connecting.

I’m not entirely sure what they are using tbh but I have got all the server codes to connect to etc.

I mean there must be a way of broadcasting the sound that’s already in windows, mixx says it can and mixx does record what I’m doing. It’s just that mixx isnt quite as well polished as serato.

Basically I don’t want to connect to the mic in on my pc as the sound is awful, but when I record internally on mixx it’s perfect

Problem is that you need to tell DJ software where to send the audio. Standard is will send both master and cue bus to your controller, so you can use your headphones and controller faders and knobs properly.

Your mic in not bringing you good sound is something I understand. It’s the worst way of doing things as you’ll probably have both impedance (ohm) and input level (dB) mismatch going on.

I would have two suggestions for you:
    1) buy an external sound card with at least 1 stereo input. Route your master outs into the sound card (still need a way to get your sound to your speakers also) and use that input for your broadcasting software.
    2) buy a USB PA mixer like the Yamaha AG03 (it’s actually advertised as a webcasting mixer!). Hook your master out up to the mixer and take the USB input to go to your broadcasting software. You’ll have full control and you can hook up your mic to the mixer too for a) better control/eq options and b) so you can record your mix (internally in your DJ software) and still use a mic (if necessary) which sound won’t go on your recorded mix.

Just my three cents (inflation has struck at DDJT Forums too).

I don’t know about other DJ Software but Virtual DJ Pro does has broadcasting capabilities built in and I know a few who use it successfully. However I use a set up similar to what DJ Vintage suggests. A laptop for broadcasting (it doesn’t need to be powerful, I use my oldest lappy). I personally use Butt Broadcasting software, it’s free, stable and remembers the settings for the 2 stations I broadcast on. Another thing is I ALWAYS suggest use an Ethernet cable from the laptop into the router, do NOT run on Wi-Fi. I have an Alesis USB mixer in between my controller and broadcasting laptop. I can run up to 2 mic’s through that and find the quality and control better than running the Mic through my Denon MC6000 Controller. I know others who use external soundcards rather than a USB mixer, but a cheap soundcard results in poor broadcasting quality and often at a lower volume. Hope that helps a bit. I remember doing the research when wanting to 1st broadcast and wish I was aware of this site at the time.

Slim – Yeah, I was surprised to find that Serato didn’t. Traktor certainly does. I own Serato, as it came with my TM8, but it’s not my primary software so I had no idea.

So last night after much messing around we got a decent quality sound using the mic in on the lap top! Had to delete and reinstall mic drivers and turn off all the echo reducing etc etc, knocked the mic down to 40 percent input and got a recording that was clear. Connected to the server to do a dummy run of sound quality and it was all good their end. Not the way I really wanted to do it but it works!

Now just got to get a microphone and I’m pretty much all set! I will look at getting an ehgernet cable bit it will have to be about 30 metres long as my Internet hubs in the front room and I’ll be djing out of my garage lol
    Cheers for your help guys
