    Hi Sean,

I bought an SX2 last year and haven’t looked back, but I almost caved in and went for the S4 as it’s a great bit of kit too. If you sure are that:

    1. You want to be solely in the Traktor ecosystem for the foreseeable future
    2. You want something that’s very portable for taking to gigs

…then get the S4. The software/hardware integration doesn’t get any better for Traktor after all.

    Get the SX2 if:

    1. You don’t need something smaller
    2. You want the flexibility of being able to use Serato, Pionner Rekordbox DJ AND Traktor all in the same controller

I have only used the S4 in a music store and had a good play. If I could own both then I would.

Good luck with your final choice but do think carefully which direction you go in.

    Thanks for the response.

I’m pretty sure pioneer is the way forward for me to be honest. However now I’m stuck between the DDJ-SX2 and the DDJ-RX lol.

    Rekordbox DJ looks pretty good!

    That’s understandable for sure.

    Just an an FYI:

The SX2 would give you the freedom to choose your preferred software(s) if that’s important to you.

SX2 by far. The RX is locked into Rekordbox and the SX2 at least lets you have options in case you decide to switch software down the line. That way you’re just buying upgrades for everything else and still rocking the same controller.

As for using the SX2 with Traktor, it’s not a match made in heaven, as – quite frankly – nothing that does not say NI/Traktor on the box is.

So if your choice is Traktor, any NI gear will do you nicely. If you don’t want Traktor, then the SX2 is a great controller (mind you, short of needing RGB pads and DVS support, a used SX will do just fine too!). Just don’t count on having a great user experience with an SX2 and Traktor now and possibly no support at all in future Traktor releases.
