Hey Rick! Do really want to start out with a CDJ set up? You could buy a controller like the S2 and get the same or even more out of it for less money (That’s the digital way though).
For the music you should check out youtube and look for songs that you like and buy them at websites like http://www.beatport.com or get them from iTunes. Another great website for music is http://www.soundcloud.com. You can find all kinds of music there and some songs are even for free and you can download them from the website.
I would buy something like the Reloop RHP-10 Headphone if you want some headphones that aren’t very expensive.
For your “home set up” you can use speakers that you already have at home. If you want to buy something only for the bedroom you could look at the Reloop ADM5 or the M-Audio AV40’s.

PS: Hurry up if you want to buy the S2. It’s on sale until March 31st and Traktor Pro2 is included. So your entire bedroom set up would cost about 610 Euros. Maybe add 40 Euros for some decent songs to start out.

    Hey Joon,

    thanks for your reaction.

I think i’ve found my dj gear, not sure, but if its ok im buying numark ndx 900 m6 mixer.

I was just worrying about the music, because I don’t have much knowledge with that, but I want to have alot of songs to mix with.

Can you give me some examples to start ‘mixing’ with? Just to practise, and to have some music knowledge (I have like 20-30 songs now, and that’s all).

That’s a tough question Rick, what are you looking to mix? Decide that before reading the advice part to this answer. Do you want to be a HipHop DJ, EDM DJ, Polka DJ?

Most of the songs within genre tend to group up in BPM clusters. If you wanted to be a house DJ, get a bunch of house songs with similar (but not identical!) BPMs. I say similar, because you’ll want to be able to practice beatmatching (defeats the purpose if everything is 128BPM).

If all you want to do is practice, I’d find a website like Beatport which has charts to go of. Want 20 electrohouse songs? Why not get Beatport’s top20 electrohouse songs from February?

Try to find songs that have long intro/outros so you have less pressure to mix in/mix out within a small (8 bar) timeframe.

Well, I don’t even know what EDM is, and what is exactly an ‘electronic’ song.
Something with a lot of beeps and weird sounds?

Just to answer your question, I like songs such as house, those with a cool beat and some cool music in it (house, dubsteb etc).

I don’t know where to start (to find songs and some DJ mixing stuff).

P.S. would the numark ndx 900 (+m6 mixer) be a good start? Just found that whole set for €809,- (2x numark ndx 900 & 1x Numark m6 mixer)

Nothing wrong with starting with CDJs, in fact if you can afford it it’s a good way to learn, as much as people like to fight it CDJ/Turntables & a Mixer are going to be the standard in clubs for a little while yet.

One thing tho dude is I’d do a little more research into EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Find out what you like, get some tunes, read forums, basically just make sure this is for you before you put up the cash. Are you even aware of the basics of mixing yet?

Here is a big list of songs (house, electro, dubstep, etc.): http://soundcloud.com/tags/electro-house?page=1 . Just look for the songs where it says “Download” and listen to them. If you like it you can download them for free. Another good way to find more music that you like is to follow Record labels like “Spinnin Records” (That’s one that I like) on Facebook or youtube so you can build up your music library. If you really don’t know where to start you better listen to all the different styles of music though. Maybe start off with a song that you like on youtube and look on the sidebar for other songs that you may also like. (I hope that it doesn’t irritate you that I only use the house electro examples, but that’s just what I like)

I have a little knowledge… such as what looping is, what pitch does etc.
I also have seen serveral vids about beatmatching etc… So I think I got a few basics.

By the way, most of those songs are ‘dubstep’, and are already a ‘mix’ version.

    So:

    – I need to find music (Got help from you with soundcloud)
    – I need to find gear (mixer, players, 1x headset, 2 small boxes?)
    – I need to learn basics/knowledge on how to ….

Can anyone help me with this?

By the way, I’d like to be a house/Electro thing DJ (those songs which u hear on top 40’s etc…)

You should really look into buying Phil DJing videos. You’d benefit greatly from them
