KeymasterMaybe check out Phil’s video on software selection, it is totally free… just go to youtube and search for “digitaldjtips software”.
The software packages are totally different in every respect. From my experience:
Traktor: It is very tunable and caters a lot towards the controllerist crowd. But it can be very complicated and it has some limitations that especially I do not like (some others love them).
Serato itch: It is very simple and is extremely easy to get into and has extremely good quality when working together with a controller. But you can only use Itch with certified controllers and nothing else.
VDJ: Is the most highly configurable Software. It is very loaded with features and you can customize EVERYTHING. I personally love this freedom it gives me. However it has the current downside that the Mac support is not as good as the PC side, the basic EQ is crap (you can change that by tweaking it) and the sampler section is limited. However VDJ 8 will change all of those things massively…July 17, 2012 at 4:47 pm #1007974Daryl Northrop

MemberWell.. I’ve tried BPM Studio and it was cool for me…
Of course I’m not a PRO (yet, lol)
http://www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl52940/BPM_Studio_Pro.htmIn the same site, I found this another software:
http://www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl56227/Traktor_DJ_Studio.htm… although I haven’t tried it
I know they are trials but they worth to give them a try and then purchase the one you liked.

ParticipantI would suggest sticking with one of the big players (Traktor, Serato Itch or Virtual DJ) as opposed to other less popular software as they have much more development and progression. It comes down to personal preference but to be honest if you’re just mixing track A in to track B then it doesn’t really matter. I love Traktor as I feel its the most powerful but I’m eager to seen Virtual DJ 8 when it comes out. I feel like Itch is already getting left behind, but that’s when you require more than basic features.

ParticipantI’m enormously frustrated with Traktor and I’m thinking of switching to Cross DJ 2.0 after Phil’s review. So I’m curious why Daryl is unhappy with Cross DJ.
Cross DJ had sync that’ll work with all my old tunes and soul tracks, plus the music library management seems A LOT better. My only concern is that Cross DJ might die out like Torq did. And only 6 cue points.

The version of Cross DJ that I am using is 1.3.4 which was a “special” version included with the iDJ3 Numark controller I purchased. The software does not qualify for the free upgrades that Cross offers – so I am at a dead end in that regard. Also, I posted this before the Cross 2.0 review came out. The new version looks really great, certainly more features that what I have now.
Also, I want to upgrade to a better quality mixing board, with more capabilities/controls. My current controller doesn’t even have cue-triggers on the board itself – I have to use my laptop keyboard for moving to cue points.
I may in the end go with Cross 2.0, but with a newer, more capable controller.

ParticipantInteresting. I already have the S4 controller, so if Mapping it to the Cross 2.0 isn’t too much of a headache, then maybe it’d be good software for me. No upgrades is not a great thing, but at $50 for a new version is pretty close to what the Torq upgrades were.
