ParticipantD-Jam, check out some JBL LSR 2328P’s they look pretty sweet for $350. OOps maybe some used ones would be in the price range.

MemberIn terms of “bang for your buck” I think he should also consider KRK ROKIT RP-6 G2

ParticipantEverybody Else seems to like the krkr routs in that price range.
You can pick up a set of krkr rokit 5’s with monitor stands and xlrs for 299December 18, 2011 at 9:52 pm #11629softcore
MemberAlthough I use KRKs for production, and they are aimed to be that, production monitoring speakers, I cant help but thinking there might be more appropriate speakers for Djing – as in, you dont actually need that much of a “precision” speaker for DJing so perhaps the money spent on KRKs could be better spent on a louder-lessaccurate set of speakers?
Just saying…I dont really know the speakers market from a DJs perspective – from a producers perspective, the KRKs are one of the best you can get in this price range.

MemberI also rate the Yamaha HS 50M as an alternative to the KRK’s

MemberOne of the most “raw” monitors on the planet – after the NS 10s. Prepare yourselves for uber-dissapointment of released tracks when using them – they do not forgive, they do not compliment.
Actually what they say about the NS 10s, “if it sounds good on NS 10s, it sounds good everywhere” could be applied to these too.
edit: and in case Im misunderstood by fellow DJs, nope I dont mean they are bad, I mean they are very good (for production, since they expose all the imperfections)

ParticipantI would suggest Genelec as they are outstanding and I have not heard anything that sounds better.
But when I see your pricerange it would be hard to match that.So I intead say take a close look at the Fostex PM05 or PM1 or KRK
That is IMO very good sound for money.I have Genelec in my homestudio and Fostex PM05 in our livingroom for radio/music at home….
KRK I have listned to and I am impressed by the sound in them as well….There is no way I can recommend you to buy a pair without listening yourself,
buy the ones that feels best for your ears and budget 🙂//DJ Hessler

ParticipantI have just bought Samson a8 for £179. They are a little big but I shouldn’t have expected anything different with 8″ speakers. They have 75 watt low power + 25 watt low power, separate amps and every connection you could ever need. Impressive sound especially considering the price.

ParticipantFor that price range i would reccomend getting the krk 6’s, and in the future add the krk 10 sub for the low end.
If you can afford it go to the 8’s but the 6s will be more than enough for production and home djing.
Even though most people say that KRKs have a total FLAT response i think this is a bit stretched. Some of my best mixes listening to them on the KRKs sound amazing. But when i ripped in onto a CD and played in my car the audio was a bit off, my mix transitions were more noticeable than with my previous speakers. BUT for the best value for money KRKs all the way.
Mackie makes some great monitors too

MemberI just got a pair of Behringer 1031a Truths. They sound just as good as KRK Rokkits and are way cheaper. Check out this review http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/recording/monitors/truth-b1031a-497864/review

ParticipantLOL these look almost identical to the Rokits… with the infamous Yellow Cone.
IMO I would not Trust Beheringer for anything long term. The Quality of their products have gotten better…but still not up to the Standards of Mackie, Yamaha, M-Audio, and KRK…but that is just my opinion

MemberSorry to hijack this thread 😉
But I am currently considering those (english language here ) as monitor speakers for the bedroom. I know I’ll need a receiver/amplifier, but I think they will suffice, and surely the sound should be better than the average monitor (at least in that pricing range, which is about 330$/210£).Anyone having experience using HiFi-Speakers as monitors?
Thx!

ParticipantPapa Bear!
If you shall listnen to music in your bedroom I think you will be fine whit these.
But if you are looking for having HiFi speakers as studio monitors I must tell you that you run the wrong line!
Hifi speakers are not constructed to have an as flat as possible toneline as studiomonitors have.
Therefore they color the sound and that is something you do not want if you produce music or make mixtapes or listnes to your mixes. If you can bare 9£ more and then you will not have to buy an amp I suggest you take a look at these:
http://www.thomann.de/de/fostex_pm1_mkii_2.htm
I have a pair in my livingroom (where I should really have a pair of Hifi spekers so I do not live as I learn)
and they are great value for money IMO. -
