For digital djs, basic computer diagnostics and repairs. Would be terrible for your system to crash mid gig and not know how to fix the issue.

Let’s not forget the ability to run like lightning. You never know when nature may call or you want to cut a few shapes on the dancefloor, between mixes.

being a producer is massively important… one track can be the difference between djing at ure local bar and ibiza. I remember seeing james holden in manchester when he first released Horizons.. massive tunes but very simply mixing. its the fastest way to zero to hero.. but yeah getting that track is the hard part. A faster way is to hook up with an engineer.

    • Multitasking
    • Micromanaging all the things and possibly the VJ
    • Marketing Skills
    • Talking to Club Owners and Manager (aka Talking Skills)
    • Presentation Skills
    • Controlling yourself not to get totally drunk in the booth
    • Regeneration Skills (Playing 4-5 nights for 3-5 hours is a drag) – I use Qui Gong and Tai Chi, but the times I did that much are over
    • No retreat, no surrender – aka if you drop a bomb and wipe the dancefloor, you have to have a comeback plan

knowing how to use photo shop. this really doesn’t help your mixing abilitys, but when it comes to promoting, having a good flyer, or picture can sometimes determine how many people hear your stuff. you can hire someone to do this, but thats pretty expensive.
