Hey Ben, this mix is bad ass! I’m jamming it now at work. I honestly don’t see you have any problem getting a gig. I’m just now getting back into DJing, but I think you should asks the fellers you know if you can work with them to get you some exposure. Once you get your name out there, then more gigs should, and will open up. That’s the way I went when I was doing it.

Hope all goes well for you.

This mix is not just good. It’s exceptional in my opinion. And to think you are doing this for only a month. The mix is good. The transitions are good. I also think you have a good musical ear. By which I mean that you pick the tunes that go well with each other. This makes the makes the mix flowing but never boring. So the mix is more then ok.

For promotion purposes I suggest you also make a shorter mix. Like 30 minutes or so. This way it’s easier for a promoter to listen to it as they usually are busy and probably will receive a lot of mixes. You also added a track list which is also a good idea.  This will also heighten the change someone will listen to it. Because if you see a artist or tracks you like it will make you curious.

To get gigs. Well just get yourself out there. Visit the places you like to DJ in. And ask. You say you know people who DJ. Ask them to listen to your mixes.  Maybe they let you open a night for them. Maybe they let you have go during soundchecks or things like that. Be persistent and don’t give up. It might take a while. Maybe not, but don’t give up. I think you got the talent. And if you have the passion for music then that is a golden combination.

Good luck, and have a super fun time while DJ’ ing

Hi there Ben.  I have not listened to the whole mix yet (I will do, but the kids need tending this AM!!), but have listened to over half of it.

However, I don’t need to hear the whole mix to know that you understand the things you need to do.  You will be just fine dude!     It has a good balanced feel.  There are a couple of mixes I would have done differently…if I recall there is a mix at about 22 minutes I would have done differently myself and beatmixed a little later when the house beat kicked in, as it sounded like an energy drop and didn’t flow as well as the rest, but overall it sounds very good.   But DJs all have different styles, so that is not criticism, just my view. Also at about 39 – seemed like an abrupt transition, but I really don’t know these tracks, most of the mixing is pretty seamless and you haven’t tried to do loads of flash stuff which is good too.

Suggest if you have friends already DJing that is most certainly the easiest route in.  Just nag them, harass them and get a set on their show!  And if that doesn’t work ….nag them some more!!

I am going to drop you a soundcloud follow and keep tabs on you.  Good luck 🙂

Nice mix. I wish we had music like that in clubs by me. Makes me wanna do garage myself. It’s infectious. Really smooth mixing and great tracks. Gold digger is bombastic!  Oh and sorry all due respect bro but there is kind of  an abrupt dip  @ 39. (between bondax and the other tribe). Lookin forward to the next mix if there is one.
