ParticipantMy favourite DJ software id Djay 4.0 and the reason why is i have a Vestax Spin and the software integrates perfectly witht he controller and my Macbook. Yes it lacks the bells and whistles of the big boys but it does the job and i can record my sets with a click of a button. I will be changing to Itch once i get my VCI-380 though 🙂

MemberHi, I am not a DJ. Just a hobbyist but I felt like I have listened to many kinds of music much more than any DJ around my town. I first started using VDJ for practicing and entertaining my friends a few years back. Since my last birthday, Ive decided to buy a controller to improve my DJ ability and Traktor was my choice. Im impressed with sound quality and effects of Traktor Pro. Comparing with VDJ, Traktor is more professional (sorry, its just my own opinion) way of mixing. Its not as easy as VDJ but thats it, the more difficult you do, the more professional you are. What I have to do is just practice more and more…. I enjoy Traktor.

MemberMy DJ software is Ableton Live because it gives me control over my music to use songs as a launching pad for new creations instead of enslaving me to going from track to track between decks. I like to incorporate live synthesizer performance into my sets as well, and Ableton gives me the mix of tools necessary to do that. (Also, Ableton’s warp tool has always been the most intuitive beat-gridding protocol for me)

MemberThe gateway drug for me was DJay too. Then I tried VDJ, which was OK for me and Traktor, which I didn’t like much. Then I tried ITCH and Traktor again more in depth (coupled with the choice on my first REAL Controller). I’m in love with Traktor ever since then. But ITCH is nice software too, they just really have to step it up a little bit and integrate the other Serato brands more to provide people with an upgrade path.
And of course Traktor is open to all kinds of controllers. The limited choice in the hardware department for me is not exactly a plus for Itch. But if they have a controller that is spot on for your way of doing things, more power to you!

ParticipantMy dj software is traktor pro2 and this is why.
I used the very first version ever of traktor
this>>>>
I’ve used every version of traktor since then and just love it…..i have tried PCDJ red and VDJ but hated them and always went back to traktor. So i suppose it’s just a case of i’m very comfortable using traktor which i think is the best dj software out there, plus i think i’m just set in my ways seeing as i’ve been using it for 10 years or so.

ParticipantWhen i used the very first version of traktor ( i still have it in original box under my PC desk, it was called traktor dj mixer) there was no controller integration at all so i was just using keyboard and mouse, it wasn’t as advanced as what traktor is now, but you could use 2 soundcards with it…one for master and one for cue, monitor, also, and this shows how long ago it was native instruments were in partnership with steinberg the makers of cubase as it also says Steinberg on the box as well as Native instruments. It was the software that got me started in the digital world and i took to like a duck to water as they say.

MemberIf NI was in partnership with stienburg for “traktor dj mixer”I wonder why they never implemented VST’s as stienburg are the creators of the VST standard?

ParticipantIt was many years ago, i’m looking at the box right now and it says steinberg creative tools and also a link to http://www.steinberg.net, it also says on the box “licensed by native instruments”. So to me that points towards the very first version of traktor actually being released as a product of steinberg with a native instruments license, also it states fraunhofer mp3 codec which was made by steinberg and gives the address as steinberg media technologies AG 2001 all rights reserved made in germany. So the first version was released in 2001, i remember i bought it in 2002 from PC world
UPDATE:
I’m reading the manual and on first page it says:

MemberMy DJ software is Traktor Pro and this is why; I am a really visual learner, which is weird since DJ’ing is an audio experience. However, using the Spectrum waveform mappings in the software fascinates me, reading the beat patterns, colour changes for high/mid/low frequencies are so cool. Plus I love how well you can map a controller into the software, the buttons and layout is really responsive. Love it!

ParticipantTraktor vs. Rekorbox: could somebody please give me a couple of compelling reasons why I should use Traktor instead of Rekordbox? I will mostly be playing on CDJ 2000 setup with DJM 900 nexus mixer. I saw recent HID development for Pioneer and Traktor, however I have been using Rekordbox very happily so far. I am not an FX junkie, I use a moderate amount of FX straight from DJM 900. It seems as if the best setup for me would be to use the hardware for all FX, loops etc., and simply use a tablet / laptop / USB stick for track selection using Rekordbox. I’m happy to be convinced that I should go with Traktor after all if someone can give me some compelling reasons…thanks in advance

MemberMy dj software is Virtual Dj LE, it came with my Herculese mk4 and so far it has gotten the job done. I’d really like to change it out for Traktor. but i may be able to once i can get my hands on some turntables and digital Vinyl.

ParticipantMy DJ software is Traktor and this is why, the first controller I ever bought came with Traktor so that what I learned to use.
That’s not the only reason of course, I could have switched to Serato when i got my Twitch or to Ableton when I got that for production work. I’ve grown to really like the flexible mapping possibilities with Traktor though, even though learning to do it wasn’t the most user friendly experience.

MemberMy Dj software is Mixvibes CrossDJ. I heard of it from the review posted earlier this month. Originally used Mixxx and Serato DJ intro, and CrossDJ is more customizable than DJ Intro (obviously), and easier to map than Mixxx. Sound latency is very low with ASIO4ALL, I am running at 1.5ms on Win7 x64.
Definitely recommend, especially at 49$.
