ParticipantMy DJ software is VDJ Free (though I plan to upgrade to Pro this year) and I use it without a controller. As I don’t beatmatch and use loads of effects (yet) it will suit me for a while. I find it intuitive, fun and relatively stable. I love it actually.

MemberAs of right now, I use Mixxx. Reason is its free, opensource, and I like to get behind the code when I can and tinker. I also like the fact that it now supports SHOUTcast and allows me to dj remotely through social mediia.

ParticipantAs for now I use Traktor Pro 2. The reasons: the LE-Version came with an controller and I just bought the update. I like it because of its intuitive Gui (matter of taste, though).
Recently I got a copy of Torq 2 (with an XPonent-Controller). You guys should have a look at it, could be the new rising star in DJ-Software.February 6, 2012 at 1:06 pm #1002872Albin0Panda
ParticipantMy current DJ software is Serato Itch. Why? Because it works perfectly with my Novation Twitch. It lets me be as creative as I like without having to get insanely tech with my mappings. I don’t have much professional playing experience, but I must say, the twitch is going to start a revolution, imo.

ParticipantMy DJ software is Serato Itch 2.1, and this is why: I selected the Numark NS6 as the best controller on the market for my needs when I made my purchase and Itch is the software that comes with it. Itch seems to be solid software and pretty easy to use; well-adapted for your “mainstream play-the-records-and-mix-it-well” kind of DJing.
I will admit that I will likely be switching over to Traktor Pro 2.5 with a Numark 4Trak and Native Instruments Kontrol F1 when they all become available because I like having the additional effects capabilities, think the Sync feature works much better than it does in Itch (though I’m still learning how to use Itch, so that will probably change in another few days), and prefer how the GUI looks to my eyes….the “TruWave” waveforms are utterly GORGEOUS, compared to the ugliness of Itch’s. Traktor is also more open to hardware controllers than Itch is. In short, Traktor Pro is just easier for me to use than Itch.

KeymasterGreat to see such a wide source of software being used. Really interesting reasons, too. Thanks all!

Memberi use scratch live and always have from day one… all my dj mates use it… and im sorry but i just cant get into the controller thing… i been on vinyl for too long and cant get past the shear extacy of those control vinyls under my finger tips… lately ive been adding controllers like the novation dicers and the akai lpd8.. and while i do enjoy not having to touch the laptop… i need hard ware to interface with that feels solid…

Memberif you want control for serato so you dont need to touch your keyboard unless you have to search for a track, you cant go past the denon hc1000

ive mapped my lpd8 for effects and track load and use the dicers for cue points, loop roll, loops, and mapped them for my sample player… im happy with my setup as i mainly play hiphop funk soul breaks sum dubstep and top 40 stuff i dont do too much edm so no need to get crazy with mapping and such… ill be postin pics of my war centre a bit later

MemberI use Traktor because it came with my s4. I like everything about it and suits my need for my mixing style. Since I don’t scratch, the other features of traktor are much more useful. While the effects are cool, does anyone know how to incorporate better quality effects?

MemberMy software is Traktor Pr 2, because Traktor DJ Studio is outdated, and I didn’t want to learn a completely new software. I thought. Fail. 😀 Aside from that, best controller integration (which is the tenor in the different forums).
And – with my purchase I support a company over here (NI’s from germany, as u know).I still miss DJ studio. And all the options to modify the interface… :/

ParticipantI’m updating what I had posted previously. I’m now using Serato Intro.
When I first got my Mixtrack Pro I was using it with my netbook. However Serato wouldn’t load as the screen size wasn’t big enough. Also the netbook was 3 years old and was getting quite slow. It worked OK with Traktor LE2 but I wasn’t getting the best out of the controller or software.
So I bought a new laptop! 750gb hard drive, 6gb ram with an i5 processor and lots of other bells and whistles.
I thought I would give Serato a spin and it seems really nice and easy to use. More effects and samples than Traktor LE2 and I can mess about with tracks with out the controller attached.
I so want to make my own mixes for my own pleasure (and others if they’ll indulge me). I think me going out and getting a new laptop last week proves I’m quite smitten with this digital DJ lark.February 20, 2012 at 5:51 am #15247goofrider
MemberMy DJ software is Serato Itch, and this is why:
I’m hobbyist and only dust off my DJ controller now and then. I have a Numark Total Control with Traktor for some time and decided to upgrade. Bought the Novation Twitch last week in order to try out Itch. I really like:
- The stacked waveforms (especially the stacked tempo/beat displays)
- Elastic beatgrid (which make looping more foolproof)
- Being able to adjust the beatgrid on-the-fly with Twitch
- Good iTunes integration
What I wish Itch had:
- some level of customization
- the control on the Twitch can be a little too modal and clunky, it’ll be nice to be able to customize it
- it’ll be nice if I can get an Itch controller with jog wheel and customize it to perform the same beatgrid controls like Twitch
- I’d like to use my Launchpad and iPad as secondary controllers

Better effects
- i play deep house mostly so i’d love to have more filter and gating options
