    Hi Glenn,

It’s you again 😀 . You seem to be really searching for what you want to do.

I’ll repeat my advice in other threads. Don’t just ask one-liner questions like this. People are willing to help with just about anything, but it helps tremendously if you give a little more background information on yourself and the reason for your question, your desired results/goals. And what, if anything, you have done to investigate matters yourself.

That makes it easier for people to help you and doesn’t feel like someone is just here to get some quick and dirty answers. Everybody with this knowledge has had to find out some way themselves. In many cases by actually trying many software themselves. As I said they are willing to share their info (our readers are the best!), but it helps if you dress up our questions and make them as precise and concise as you can.

Example: Let’s consider the next two questions: 1) “Hi, I am Glenn, I am 18 and just getting into DJ-ing and producing. My heroes are Armin and Hardwell. I would love to make Trance music. I have looked at free software for production and found Fruity Loops and Audacity, but they are very different and I don’t know which one would be best for me. Can you help me?” 2) “What is the best free production software for beginners”. If people were asking YOU, which one would you feel better about answering? I am hoping it’s question a).

I am not big on producing and can’t actually answer your question, but I am sure (especially if you add some more reason behind your question) that one of our great readers will have an opinion on the matter that they’ll share with you.

    YOU STOLE MY DESCRIPTION!!

Anyway, Glenn. Check out REAPER: http://www.reaper.fm/

If you pit in the time to learn the stuff, it is sure to last you for long no matter what kind of music you make. It’s what I started with, and to be honest, it’s one of the best DAWs out there. Even with the other “paid-for” ones.

But your DAW should be your personal preference and others can only give suggestions. Make sure you try out different ones and see what works for you.

Of course I did. You don’t see me spending hours trying to come up with something original, do you? What am I, a DJ or something?

Garageband is really your best bet if you want an interface close to most professional DAWs for free. However, if you decide to continue seriously with production, don’t be afraid to shell out some money for it. I mean, you can now get Logic Pro or FL studio for 200 bucks! (and don’t forget- no matter what software you use, TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE MANUAL!)
