    I do all my playlists, comments, tagging etc. in iTunes and just use those in VDJ or Serato.
    I have very few Serato “smart crates” and thats it.
    Using also MixedInKey to tag the files.
    Thats about it.

    When I used Traktor and iTunes I would create playlist in iTunes and use those in Traktor. I would create playlist specifically for the gig I was doing plus have the crates for main collection. The only thing with the iTunes crates in Trakor is the they’re read only. I would suggest importating all your tracks in Traktor if you haven’t done so already so that they’re all analysed. The Bibile is a fantastic book for learning the full ins and out of Traktor.

    iTunes “crates”? Haven’t heard that term before, is that a separate feature? And what is the effect of the crates being read only?

    You could browse the whole iTunes hierarchy including albums and smart albums in Traktor. Then you could even import the albums or smart album (contents) into the Traktor playlist. Which is cool as you could do magic with iTunes smart playlists, such as:

    * All house tracks added the last year with a BPM between 127 and 129
    * All tracks by
    and so on and so on ….

    check out this post by DJ Endo at Dubspot. Alot of great things in there. I did most of what he has to say in there and when I want a particular type of track I search by Genre, Mood, and Descripitors and I have no trouble finding what I’m looking for, often several possibilities come up that can go with the direction I want to move in with my set.

    I think the key is getting your playlists to work for you and almost turning it into a google search engine. Just find what method works for you really. I would say to first clean out all your old tracks you dont realy play and start with tracks you want to keep or are requested often etc;
