ParticipantIt comes down to “how many heads can you bring out?”
Hard truth. Do other things that can help you build a fan base. Play smaller venues where you could get a prime spot. Give out CDs or something where people can go to your website to get mixes. If you don’t have a site, get one.
Openers are generally booked for their talent and track selection, as well as their ability to play an opening set. Take that as a massive compliment then that promoters see you as talented.
Bigger spots though generally go to whoever brings people out…even if they suck.

Just a real quick question, If i gave out CD’s should i put something written in the CD’s, just some simple words like my twitter name (since i dont have a site not just yet), would that be sufficient in time being ?

KeymasterHonestly I have given out CDs that used this laser on thing (I think lightscribe?) to print some arty stuff my DJ name and “with thanks to my fan_________________” and I signed em with a big CD pen.
Takes some time to sign 200 CDs but well worth it.February 13, 2014 at 9:00 am #2003308DJ Vintage
ModeratorGet a simple inkjet printer (I love the Canon’s for this, but I think some others have the same functionality) that can print CD’s. Buy blank CD’s (you can get them with white or silver background) that can be inkjet printed. Little bit of software let’s you create your own labels. You can save the templates to re-use later on.
Your CD’s will look like professional CD’s.

ParticipantOk i keep it mind with the CD labels, but for emergency purpose (for err like tomorrow nite) what would be the alternatives ?

ModeratorProblem with stickers is, that if they are not CD-labels, they will create an inbalance in the disc, which isn’t really good for the mechanism of a CD-player. Not that you should care, but still.
I’d avoid writing on it by hand, unless you do it ” live” with the recipiant watching (bit like the signature suggestion by Terry).
The other option is using a blank disk, but putting it in a clear sleeve or CD-box in which you put a simple printed inlay, cut to size.

ParticipantEpson Printers have CD printing capabilities. I love them and have used them for years.
In terms of “site”…yeah, if you have no site, then definitely put your Twitter handle at the least.
Still…a website is something to think about. Even if you have no money to pay someone to build it, try using the services available to make it yourself. Squarespace has amazing DIY building capabilities. Believe me, I build sites for a living, so if I’m saying it’s great then it has value for starting out with the basics.

ParticipantThanks guys yall just the beast for giving out information =))
Just want to share my story a lil bit relating on the CD’s giveaway stuff, last week I had 2 gigs at the same club, Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, while im preppin up, one of guests tapped me in the shoulder, and says, “man your sets is rocked last nite dude, the resident DJ is just plain bleh, what time you playin tonite ??”. We chatted a bit, after he walked back to his table, my brain spinning err so what I need to do so this guy remembered me, OH YEAH mixtapes CD on my backpack, I quickly reached out for it and tapped the guest and give it to him, and it turned out the guy is one of the big spenders at that club, ow yeah FTW !!!
