Make sure you air out enough so it is not too humid, especially also in Winter.
Having lived in Toronto I know how cold it gets so some kind of heating if it gets below zero in there would of course be advised. However do not turn on the heat and then play right away, or you risk condensed water on the electronics.
I always recommend to let stuff rest at a new temperature for an hour before doing anything.
If you have too much sound backlash from plain walls, just hang a few old carpets on the walls.

Great call, Terry; I hadn’t thought about humidity. I don’t think the walls will be a problem, but of course I’ll run some tests. Thanks!

Would extreme temperatures be an issue when the equipment’s not in use, do you think? I suppose I should dig up the gear manuals…

Yes depends on the gear. Most sensitive are speakers usually, they will have the lowest range of temps storing them.

That makes a lot of sense. Definitely the next step will be to dig the manuals out. Thanks again!

I’ve finally gotten around to doing this. The first big question is where to plug everything in; there’s an obvious shortage of outlets out there. I’ve got one free spot right near the fuse box, which feels intimidating, but it ought to be enough to plug in a surge protector that I can mount on the wall nearby…

That sounds good, do not worry, being close to the fuse box is not a bad thing in that case, just make sure the surge protector is in place and at least around 10inch from the box.

Yeah, I have a feeling I’ll just mount it on the wall, both to maintain the space and to remove a lot of the cabling hassle.
