Well, modular is not my forte, nor is Traktor anymore, so I can’t help you there.

One thing does have me wondering though. You say you don’t like to use sync much after admitting you don’t use the jogwheels. How DO you beatmatch then? Don’t tell me you just use the nudge buttons?!

I use my s2 jog wheels at the moment but I’m looking for some inspiration tbh.

I’m just getting started DJing after spending the past six months learning some basic Ableton production techniques, and I’m intrigued by the modular approach myself. My thinking:

    1. I’d like to learn on touch strips instead of jog wheels
    2. I’d like to buy something I can upgrade over time

I thought about starting with a z1 and an x1 as my “beginner controller”. That would give me the option of adding an F1 or another z1 later.

    Thoughts on this approach?

I don’t think there’s much “learning” to be done on touch strips. They’re only really used for nudging or needle drops, whereas with jogwheels you have the option of learning to scratch.

Having said that, I recently picked up an X1mk2 and now I much prefer to take that to gigs than to lug around my cumbersome SCS.1d’s. The Traktor modular system is awesome especially if you play mostly EDM and buy into the whole NI philosophy. It definitely allows you to upgrade piece by piece over time as well.

When I dj in club’s, I only ever use my audio soundcard and a mk1 kontrol x1. No cdjs etc.

You could get and z1 mixer? Or a xone k2 as a mixer?
or buy A small 2,channel mixer and use that.
