Wow, just been playing around with this, and the way it works is fantastic! I’ll probably actually end up trying harmonic mixing now, it’s never really intrigued me enough before, but now it is!

what you can also do is match the playing song to the cueing track. it sometimes can make a cool energy change to the track. Like often used in 80’s 90’s pop and rock songs where the last chorus is repeated but the key is raised.
I did a gig last night using only a Kontrol Z1 and F1 with Cross and it worked quite well although I missed my DDJ SX jog’s and led feed back.

The only problem I have with that is that key changes in a playing song are usually VERY audible. It is after all the reason that the first pro DJ CD-players introduced key lock while changing tempo, because even a little tempo change could be noticed.

One of the reasons is that (from my limited theoretical knowledge of music, so shoot me please) to get to the next semi-note, you may have to go through a key that really sounds horrible.

The human ear is way more sensitive to a key change than it is to a speed change.

Not saying it can’t or shouldn’t be done, but it takes an awful lot of finesse.

I have to agree the harmonic mixing part and also the key detection itself is spot on. Now get me a decent mapping for the TM4 and I am in heaven.
