ModeratorHi Paul,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. If something works at one point, you don’t change anything and then it works differently or not at all, usually something is wrong with the gear. However, it pays to make sure.
Here’s good place to check if you have it all set up correctly:
http://www.numark.com/kb/article/1407You can download a trial version of Mixvibes Cross (14-days) if you want to check out some other software and you could try Virtual DJ as well. Just to get a feel for what you think suits you best. If anything, Traktor is moving away from supporting non-Traktor hardware more and more and integration is becoming more of an issue lately.

ParticipantChuck is right. If you are going for Traktor, nothing will work except Native Instruments’ own stuff. I’m not sure why you would want to use the MTP2 with Traktor, it’s one of the controllers with a barely usable integration. The .tsi has been made quite half-heartedly if you ask me.
I would say you are better off opting for another software, and for the MTP2 nothing better to start than Serato DJ Intro. I’ve used the MTP2 with loads of software including Serato DJ (Flawless Performance), Virtual DJ (Close Second), Cross DJ (Decent Integration), Deckadance (On par with Cross), Mixxx (Works fine), Ableton Live (No Jogwheels, but the pads work great) and Traktor is the worst.

KeymasterI actually did a performance showcase this weekend with a Mixtrack Pro and a reloop Neon to show that a MTP if you add a pad controller like the Neon works perfectly with Serato DJ.
Traktor will on the other hand give you headaches on the MTP all the time…

ParticipantThe reason I decided on MTP and Traktor was a recommendation by a mate who had used the same set up for several years stress free.
I had a quick play last night and things seem to be working again but I’m only using the very basics at the moment, no cues or effects or loops as yet. Got to say I’m enjoying the Traktor lay out and I’m loathed to start over with different software. Although nobody has much praise for the pairing.

ModeratorI feel your pain, Paul. I started with the Denon MC6000(mk1) many years ago when it first came out. It came with Traktor, so I started using that. It became obvious that Traktor wasn’t for me after a few months of intensive use. Since Serato at the time was locked to only a handful of controllers and expensive sound cards, switching there was no option. I ended up finding Mixvibes Cross which is still working strong for me, now in the 3rd or 4th year or so.
But the switch was a bitch. Resetting cues and loops and such, importing my (way too big) collection all over again. Getting used to and optimizing the beatgrids (Traktor sucks at everything not electronic in that respect), etx.
Having said that, it was most definitely the best decision and worth the time, effort and aggravation at times to have a tool that fits my workflow way better that Traktor ever did of could have.
This is not to say that you need to drop Traktor. On the contrary, if you think it’s the best tool for you, stick with it. I would advise you to lose the MTP in that case though and go for a (used) S2 or S4 to get the best out of both your controller and your software.

ModeratorSmall addition to my above post. You say your friend has used the combo for a long(er) time. The thing is that a few years ago Traktor was much more into supporting many controllers and had an avid community making mappings that Traktor didn’t. The last one or two years Traktor has moved and still is moving more and more towards a one-brand solution supplier, i.e. guaranteeing their software works best (only) with their sofware. Thus newer releases are less and less supportive of non-NI gear.
There are some technological reasons why, for example, you can only get optimal jogwheel integration with Traktor gear and not with regular midi-controllers. There have been posts on here to explain that, but not going into it any deeper now.

ParticipantI use the Mixtrack Pro 2 with Traktor and it works fine – all the mappings for Loop, FX etc work as intended. The only gripe I sometimes have is adjusting the pitch to a precise level (e.g. trying to get it at 120bpm instead of 120.01bpm) and the sensitivity of the jog wheels, but if I’m just recording a mix at home I can use Sync to get around that.
As far as I’m aware I have the standard .tsi from Numark.

ModeratorNot saying it isn’t working (although the jogwheel integration as you mention yourself isn’t up there), but I am saying that the path Traktor is crafting is very clear and it does not include any regard for any “other brand” hardware. This means that with the next big upgrade there is very little guarantee that older, non-NI gear will still function.
As you might have noticed, Traktor is also on a jogless path. Another reason to suspect that, if anything, the integration of jogwheels will go down, not up.
