If your starting out, you could always download Serato intro. Works great with the mixtrack pro, very easy to use and works straight away (no mapping etc).

If you’re planning on buying the full VDJ pro package, it should be no problem using it with the Mixtrack. However, you will not get a discount like you would if you have bought the Mixtrack with VDJ LE. This is a cheapish controller, so I don’t think the discount would be very much.

I’m using the Mixtrack Pro with VDJ Pro myself and I can tell you that it’s a good set to start DJ’ing with.

Yeah I forgot about Serato! Although it looks too basic to me? I may be completely wrong -I’m a complete beginner- Do you happen to know if there is still a way to buy a the controller and the VDJ software it used to come with instead of buying the controller with Traktor and then buying VDJ?

    George,

Double check, but I thought the software it came bundled with was based on region. When I bought my Mixtrack (not PRO) off of ebay a while back they had some bundled with VDJ and some with Traktor. I just made sure to confirm with the seller before purchasing. This may be different now (with the PRO), but worth a look into.

Honestly, I’ve been hearing that Serato DJ Intro is really good for a LE version…I’d go d/l that and give it a try regardless if you end up getting the Traktor/VDJ bundled with your controller.

Okay thanks for the help guys! Regardless of Serato, as I can get this with either of the software provided, out of VDJ and Traktor, which do you think would be better personally?

VDJ Pro! if you like to get technical with few limitations and can stand an almost complete software which has more features than any other competitor (VDJ8 will hopefully bring all these features together for novice users).

Traktor if you like a little modification and are happy with the quality of NI gear because nothing else will work with it properly,

Intro if you are just wanting plugin and play two tracks.

VDJ LE is the worst LE software as the eq is terrible, the mapping is always basic and the effects are shockingly bad in quality… You should contact numark to see if they give you a different serial, I remember someone on the vdj forum saying they were able to do that a while ago. It will be essential if you choose to go with VDJ as it gives you 50% off which is just over $150…
