ParticipantIf I were you I would easily go for the mix track pro 2. Because it’s bundled with Serato DJ Intro. Serato Intro is the best free software in my opinion because it has enough features to do a whole gig. Plus a good upgrade path. But the next step up from the pro 2 would be the demon MC2000 it usually goes for around 350-300. But I got mine here for 199.
It’s built better and is tightly mapped to serato. Also has gain knobs which will come in handy. Check out the review on it on the digitaldjtips site. Be sure to check it out and compare themApril 7, 2015 at 7:00 pm #2171331Solow

ParticipantYes serato looks fantastic, thats why I have asked if its possible to use serato with the mixtrack 2. I’m pretty much dead-set on the mixtrack, I just want to know if a cheaper option is available and works just as fine.
Thanks

ParticipantYeah mixtrack 3 looks great, but I’m not sure how comitted i’ll be to this hobby a couple of months down the line. This is why I’m considering the pro 2 because its dropping in price! And anyway if this hobby became a bigger part of my life then I will be more than willing to splash out and get a professional piece of hardware.
If anyone could answer my specific question, it would be great :D. (In the first post)

ModeratorHi George,
I’d say the Mixtrack has too many limitations, the lack of sound card being one. While it is possible to use your PC sound card (and it having 6 outputs means nothing, just that it’s surround sound, which is useless for DJ-ing) to power the master output to your speakers, you’d have to run your headphones through your PC’s headphone output. Not the most optimal situation.
Also, if you get invited to play at a friends house or something, you are up the proverbial “sh*t-creek”. You are not gonna tote your entire PC setup with you and hooking up that little stereo mini-jack output to some more serious house-party ready speakers is not gonna be fun either, let alone the limitations of having your headphone not hooked up to your controller (which, btw, is what you are considering, not a mixer 😛 ) but to your PC.
I personally would not invest any money into a controller without a sound card in this day and age anymore. And since you mentioned future upgrade paths, the Mixtrack is probably not gonna give you much resale value.
The MC2000 (Denon) that is mentioned is one of our favorite Serato beginner controllers. It is good enough to last you past your first few steps into DJ land and will serve you well to the point of upgrading. There are plenty around used and since the Denon’s are built like tanks (even the MC2000) and it supports Serato intro too (just download for free, install and play away), picking one up second hand could be a good choice too. Worth looking into, I’d say.

ParticipantAs far as audio goes, I would stick with the DJ Audio over the gaming. It’s best to use stuff that was designed for DJing. Dolby digital surround sound and all that stuff is awesome when you’re playing destiny. But when you’re rocking a crowd, you want something was designed to be taken to a gig. Like we said earlier, mixtrack pro is the better choice and includes a built in soundcard. But if you still feel strongly about the mixtrack for virtual dj, then buy a numark external soundcard for it. This all applies if you will be out doing parties though.

ParticipantThank you so much guys, that was extremely helpful! Since the mixtrack 3 is releasing sometime soon I might just wait for that, buy it or buy a mixtrack pro 2 at a much cheaper price!
Really helpful, thank you especially Dj Vintage!
