    There’s nothing wrong when doing this IMO, and it’s been in my bag of ”oh shit, running low on time and need to transition asap” since I’ve started.

    so you mean EQ-ing is more preferred? why?

    Both are valid things. Since I am not an effects or looping junkie, filter and EQ transitions are what I do a lot apart from the basic transitions. They are fun and like you say, sound good if done right.
    So if it sounds good to you, nothing wrong with using it.

    Perfectly fine to do. I avoid using filters because they sound “too clean” if you get my drift but do use them on occasion. I mostly do endzone mixing so I usually drop out the low on the EQ of the incoming track and up the High or Mid or Both depending on the sound I want. Then slowly bring up the low on the new track while dropping the low on the old if the low stays hard right till the end of the last track. I usually have the low back to 12 oclock 16 bars in, as this is when the build up starts for a lot of the music I play and I want the new track to be the more powerful one by this point with the old still being there but less pronounced.

    Filter/EQ mixing is a good skill to know. It’s better to vary your mixing techniques – filter mix, beat mix, slams, tonal (no beat) mixing, just to keep things fresh.

    As long as every mix doesn’t sound the same, I say go for it.

    If you can make it sound good then do it! There re no hard and fast rules of transitions as long as they seem smooth and seamless to the punters, do what ever you want or can! More strings to your bow the better!

    Not nec., and there is no* objective standard for mixing. When I mix, I feel EQing might allow you a tighter mix, and make the transition more subtle. I also may only want to kill the low-end of a track, and not touch the middle/high frequencies. Filter transitioning isn’t bad, or even less preferable; I was merely saying it’s great in-a-pinch for you are dealing with 1 knob as opposed to worrying about the balance of 6 and it sounds good. There are songs that I will filter out, and other songs I wish to EQ mix with.

    Ive never even thought to mix with the filter before, i only use EQ’s but i can definitely use this to add a few tracks to some mixes that i was having problems with. Cheers guys

    It can work well for some mixes but if you did this every mix I feel the transitions would start to get a bit lifeless

    Think it’s safe to say if you used the same transition throughout your entire mix it would start to feel lifeless.
