    Learning to count the phrases of the genre and practicing it is the only way.
    If you cannot hear the phrase length in the bass drum (which is usual in that genres) there is almost any time a hit hat, cymbal or something you can hold on too.
    I would take a look into musical theory for that genre and look how it is made up and how it keys in.

    I cannot get more specific as usually I do not count anymore… been doing this for too long and just feel while listening…

    Frist things first you need to learn how to mix without the BPM displays. They should be a tool to assist not a crutch to avoid learning necessary skills. Eventually you will just sense it but Terry’s advice above is good.

    4, 8, 16, 32 bars. Learn the breakdowns, usually 16/32 bars, places where you could mix something else in. Loops are your friends.

    The beats may seem irregular but there is always a constant drum or clap/hi-hat to grab on to, feel that rhythm and just go with it.
