Depends on controller and software. I have very few problems with my jogwheel response on my DDJ-SX with Mixvibes Cross, but Traktor with some non-NI midi-controllers is often just not nice. You notice it even when cueing up a track manually. Most controllers (bar the S-series by NI, big surprise) can’t do HID though.

I am not a big scratcher, but i reckon that the mismatch/jogwheel integration issues come out full force when scratching.

Midi in Traktor is not as tight as HID. However certainly usable, if you adjust the rotary mapping settings. (Ok Steve Canueto the scratch tutor may disagree with me on this one. ) 😉

First you must be ok with mapping in Traktor.
Second take a backup of your settings.

For each of the scratch mappings there are Rotary sensitivity and Rotary acceleration.
The sensitivity is the main one you need. Play with the lower end of the setting and keep seeing what the response is like, sometimes even a 1% change makes a big difference. Keep moving the jog until you get the sort of response you want. It is never perfect, but worth a go if you already have a controller.

The biggest problem is not the resolution (which is significantly lower though) as you can adjust to that when scratching. The biggest problem for me was latency. I could not get Traktor to get rid of the latency and I just cannot live with a delay between moving the platter and what happens, when doing some more advanced scratches. Even a transformer scratch was impossible for me.
