Microphone?

Most controllers have a dedicated mic in or an auxillary line input, that you can input a microphone. if using an external mixer, you can use on xlr to connect a microphone to its own channel. Active speakers also have line in or mic inputs.

Shure makes great microphones. I’d recommend you buy Shure. As for use of the microphone, all you have to do is whip off your headphones before you make your announcement. I’m not sure I’ve heard of anyone using a microphone while wearing their headphones. What I would recommend is sound checking before the event starts.
1. throw on a tune at concert volume
2. speak into the mic and sound check the level to what you want (so people can hear what you say while the music is playing, without blowing them out with your voice)
3. all you have to do is mute your mic gain when youre not using it, and turn it up to what youve determined is a good level for when you use it.

Sure SM58 with On/Off Switch. Cheap, reliable etc.
For weddings I use an AKG wireless system and the AKG mics are actually better than the sure, but cost a lot more.
