Sell your BeatsPro and with the $400 go buy 2 6″ Rokit Monitors…with the left over 100 bucks go buy some real DJ headphones. Then you have everything you need to practice at home.

Then make sure you have all the proper cables you need to connect to any system.

But yeah…Beatpros are imo a joke for Djing…Accent the Lows WAAYYY too much…with muddled mids and over accented Highs.

No way! Im on your side with the Beats Pro Chris! They are not real monitor headphones, I know, but I wouldn’t change them for anything else.
I have the Beats Studio and they are amazing. The build quality is unmatchable, you will have to try hard to break them or play them at a really loud volume and hurt them, but you wont need to turn your volume down as their noise reduction is AMAZING. Its true they accent the lows too much, but thats what you really need for beatmatching, though at your level maybe it isnt important, it will be someday. Just remember to buy a COILED cable for it (the one home telephones use to prevent them from disconnecting)
I also have the MC3000 and it is indeed amazing too.
If you arent video DJing as I suppose (playing also with videos to show) you shouldnt use Virtual DJ and use Traktor which is in my opinion FAR better and it will boost your DJing by a lot.
The only thing you are needing are monitors, but do not worry, I started with just some simple Edifier PC speakers with a crappy sub woofer and learned the basics with that. Just practice with something like this or any audio system you have in your home or you could just use your headphones as the master out as they will enable you to monitor the ‘real’ mix, the one that everyone will hear, better, and use the crappy speakers to monitor (as if they where your headphones)
As monitors I now use the nEar 06 by ES. and altough I bought it used from a friend, I think they arent that expensive and sound great.
I also practiced with a normal iPod Dock (the ones you connect your ipod and play music) (one with an aux in) You dont really need expensive monitors at your level. In my opinion, just practice with what you have. If you have no skill, evne the most expensive equipment wont be of use. Just to give you an idea, I DJed in my bedroom for 1 year before even buying my first controller or an audio card and learned the basics that way.
If you start practicing the basics with no equipment, then, slowly, you will start to notice the needs you have, and buy acordingly 🙂

This is the difference between Consumer and Professional gear.

Let me put this in perspective. The Beats Studio/Pro is like a Ferarri….Where as real DJ headphones, like the Ultrasone Pros, or HDJ2000s, ETC. are like Pick up Trucks.

Now which one would you use to goto work?

The Fact that it uses powered Noise Cancellation is also a minus, you NEVER want anything interfereing with the music you are listening to. Batteries cost additional money that is a waste.

Now the PROs are all metal construction so they do have better durability but they are still prone to the issues above.

I dare anyone who has the PROs to wear them on their head for 4 hours straight and see how good your head feels.

I think ur missing the point….I could DJ a whole night using my shitty JVC Marshmellow Earbuds…but i dont…its not the right tool for the job. With Beats you are paying for the name not the Quality. Use some HDJ2000s and you will notice a complete difference in quality.

Rokit 5s will be completely fine for what u want them for…Rokits are GREAT DJ monitors…they produce a little too much low end, so its perfect for a small setup where u dont want things super loud.

not everyone knows Beats but you sure as H*** can be sure that anyone into the DJ busness knows Pioneer 😀

yes the rockit 5 are fine, they have a little less punch than the 6s but are still very flat in response and hence excellent for mixing purposes. you can always add a subwoofer later if you need more oomph…

as for headphones: the beats are some of the worst for mixing, ever. any 70 bucks pioneer is better for djing and any etymotic will be better for fidelity listening.
why do people use it in videos: because they are paid to do so.
same as, why do I wear a Nike fashion hat at gigs? cause my local shop pays me to do it… not because it is good for djing to wear a nike hat…
now as a fashion item the beats are great. stylish, expensive and chicks love them on you…
