Participant….and if I go with Maschine I’d just soon go with the full size version instead of the Mikro. I know the Mikro is great….but if I go with Maschine the idea, for me, would be that it give me huge amounts of hands on tactile control. I thought about going for the Mikro for awhile…but given the cost….for me I might as well spring for the Mack daddy

Memberwhy don’t you go with a Maschine Mikro and 1 F1 as you don’t necessarily need to control decks c and d at first however with 1 F1 you actually could switch from c to d i’m pretty positive. How ever if you don’t like that idea personally i would go with a Maschine.

ParticipantAlso, to save cash, look on eBay. You just might be able to get all 3 in your budget

ParticipantThanx for the advice guys. I haven’t checked on eBay yet. Might buy the f1’s on eBay if that’s what I decide since i obviously dont need another Traktor license. If I got a used Maschine on EBay would the Maschine software work? I don’t think it will bc the serial numbers have already been used by someone else…I may be wrong.

No problem – i recently sold the traktor license of the F1 on eBay – you can un-register your serial at Native-Instruments; afther doing this it’s free to use for others.
If the seller forgot this, you can send Native Instruments a photo with the product and the serial on the CD-Cover and they un-register the Software for you (Happend to me)So, don’t worry 🙂

ParticipantI think it comes down to your workflow, and if you want to use Remix Decks or not. I still believe the next Maschine will have HID. I can’t imagine NI not doing it.
I’m still very neophyte in production, but I found I really don’t use midi controls when I produce. Midi controls are great for live performance, but too often when I’m just at home on my computer it’s all mouse and keyboard. Bear that in mind if you’re thinking the Maschine will be your control on some music production route. It’s pointless if you find yourself using it less and less for that.
I bought an APC40 a while back. Ended up selling it because of this. I found I really didn’t use it in production. So think about all this from a LIVE PERFORMANCE viewpoint. If you think you won’t use the full power of the Remix Decks, then go Maschine. If not, then two F-1s.

ParticipantWow. Thanks Clockwise. Had no idea I could release 1 of my Traktor licenses…or send a pick to NI to solve the problem for hardware that has the software license issue.
And thanks for the input DJam. Always appreciated. Yeah the main reason the Maschine appeals to me personally is bc I can use it for production and DJ’ing. I have the imaschine app on my iPad and I find it extremely easy for me to come up with good beats using it (simple as it is….just a toy really) Also have GarageBand. Haven’t sprung for Logic Pro yet but the workflow is very similar….and i struggle with getting in the groove of things in constructing the basics of a track/remix with the mouse and grid….at least for beats. Maybe that will change with time….like anything else. Like i said…its just that i loved how intuitive and easy imaschine was for me. Having said all that….may sound odd…but im leaning toward the f1 for right now. Im a EXTREMELY novice producer….meaning all I’m hoping for, right now, is that I can even learn how to produce the way I want to. I’m also a passionate DJ that loves the immediacy of the creativity Traktor and its remix decks allows you to have. The only reason im thinking F1 is bc, i think, it fits me best for where im at with all this. I struggle with thinking to far ahead of myself, especially when im passionate about something, instead of staying in the present moment and doing whats best RIGHT NOW.

ParticipantI did look at the APC 40 as well. I’m just a solid NI and Pioneer guy….only bc it’s what I’ve used in my limited time doing this stuff. I recently saw a DJ/performer/artist (whichever title u want to give him) that did NOTHING BUT live play/remixes for his entire set using the APC 40 on Youtube. Can’t remember his name…I think it was on Dubspot’s channel. He was doing a decent size festival and finger drums his entire set. That’s not something I’m interested in doing for myself….but it was amazing to me none the less. Just thought I’d mention that bc it did make me check out that piece of equipment.

ParticipantMy bad…that’s not the APC. Got alittle mixed up. Been lookin at a lot of equipment lately. Cool vid though….really takes the live remix concept and busts it wide open.

KeymasterI used my Maschine almost exclusively for production. I have since slowly started to incorporate it to perform some songs more in my sets, it has very good pads for this and I just prefer the workflow of Maschine software over the APC, but that is personal choice I guess.

ParticipantI recently picked up Maschine to complement my very modest production suite and have to say it’s brilliant. I’ve not integrated with Traktor/S4 yet, so I can’t comment on that side of things. I also agree with DJam, I would only go with the Maschine if you intend to use it heavily for production, as you can do everything point n click in the DAW, albeit not as tactile.

ParticipantCool. So right now it seems like Maschine is exactly what I’m looking for once I make that hard dive into production. But for use during DJ sets most prefer to use what’s already there w/ the remix decks using the f1. I’m not saying 1 is better than the other….obviously the Maschine is the most capable out of the 2. It just seems most are using the f1 and loving it.

ParticipantAlso what DJam said earlier about NI likely releasing a new version of Maschine that has HID in the future has me leaning toward being patient with deciding on the Maschine. Just for now. I love the Maschine

ParticipantFinally got my F1 yesterday and haven’t been able to put the thing down!!!! I love it. This is what I have for my “Levels” remix so far. Did it while standing up and holding the f1 for the camera. Really intuitive piece of hardware once u spend the time with it. 3hrs passes by in what seems like 5min when I’m playing with this thing! Here’s a YouTube link to the vid. It’s a working progress…but I’m happy with how far I’ve come after only having the f1 for a day and a half!
