First you should take a look at the classic EDM songs. For example :

    • Swedish House Mafia – Save The World
    • Eric Prydz – Pjanoo
    • The Bloody Beetroots – Warp 1.9
    • Avicii – Levels
    • Hardwell – Spaceman
    • Afrojack & Steve Aoki – No Beef

2014, I still ear all of them when I go to a nightclub. Then take a look at famous artists discoygraphy (Axwell, Angello, Prydz, Laidback Luke, Ingrosso, Alesso, Nicky Romero, Hardwell, Avicii, Arty, Hard Rock Sofa, Matisse & Sadko, Swanky Tunes, Otto Knows…), go to Beatport and for Pop songs, iTunes is definitely your friend.

Example of pop songs that work well during a party :

    • Taio Cruz – Hangover
    • Nicky Minaj – Starships
    • Flo-Rida – Well… Every F-R song released since 2011
    • Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours
    • Bruno Mars – Treasure
    • Robin Thicke  – Blurred Lines

    And the list goes on…

Go take a quick peek at the Billboard Top 100 Singles, and then try to look for their EDM remixes of them or the mash-up of it, building a pop/EDM collections is by far most easier compared to reggae

It is very easy to find EDM/pop remix tracks. I use this DJ record pool:

    http://www.digitalmusicpool.com/

They have countless Top-40 remixes, originals and so much EDM it makes you want to cry. Only $15.00 a month, too. Look into it!

Other than that, look at the BeatPort top 100 for classic EDM tracks. Even though I recommend purchasing from iTunes because it’s slightly cheaper.

Also, research for transition tracks so it makes it a bit easier to transition from hip-hop to 128 BPM and vice-versa.

Soundcloud is great for building a collection of tracks that’s more true to your own brand/vibe. Start by searching for Hip Hop tracks & reggae tracks you love. The Dubstep remix of Dead Prez’s Hip Hop is a great start into that genre and as for Trap/Bass type stuff check out Tropkillaz, they have some fun reggae remixes/derived tracks.

You have to start with the tracks you know that you like in edm, there is no point playing tracks just to get yourself gigs… cau if you dont enjoy listening to the tracks when playing then your just going to stand there (like 90% of pop/edm djs) Start with the pop/edm tracks that you know and like. ( if you dont know tracks like Skillillex – bangarang ft Sirah and avicci – levels  then dont take on these gigs) Build from there alot of stuff by kanye west, jay-z, timberlake, timberland etc have hip-hop roots but are alot pop so you are not completely changing and you should use that knowledge as the foundation of your sets until you build up a collection of your own.

Your friend probably offered you gigs cau he wants your vibe in his nights… if you just turn up and play all the current edm then you going to sound like every other dj there.
