Mac Sound Question

I have no idea about the mixtrack as I do not know it, but the MacOS part:
This is just MacOS way to tell you that you have no output controls in software, so MacOS cannot control things like Volume/Pan etc. via its Preferences and you have to do it manually on the device. So it will only feed your device with the audio signal/stream and not try to do anything else (e.g. sending Volume info).
So the sound on your mixtrack should work if you use the volume controls/faders on the mixtrack, but MacOS wont be able to display the volume you use on screen in the preferences. (Your DJ software might be able to, as it gets the feedback via MIDI which MacOS does not).

So this is totally normal and not really an error message. (Happens also on most teleconference boxes you hook up via USB and most DJ controllers.)

Hmm diagnostic from afar is not easy, I would suspect that something in the chain is not configured correctly.
I would simply take one end of the chain like start from headphones and then move through the chain and check if everything from controller, to DJ software to OS X to USB if everything is correctly setup. Also try a reboot with the mixtrack disconnected and plug it in after OS X has loaded and you are logged in.

On rare occasions there is a bug where OS X fails to initialize the audio, if this is the case check with your headphones if you still have sound output on the built in headphone jack as opposed to the mixtrack when you have set the output in your DJ software to the mixtrack.
If this is the case try the following procedure:
– disconnect all your devices from your macbook (mixtrack, mouse, keyboard)
– shutdown OS X and leave the macbook turned off for at least 30 seconds
– make sure your macbook is plugged into power-adapter
– on the left side of the built in keyboard press: Shift-Control-Option and press the power button -> HOLD ALL BUTTONS FOR AT LEAST 15 SECONDS!!! The LED indicator on your power adapter might flash shortly, this is normal
– release all buttons at the same time
– boot your machine and plug in your periphery AFTER OS X has loaded normally AND you are logged in

this procedure will reset your SMC settings in case you had a mismatch during location of the sound device.

Are you just trying to listen to the master output of the Mixtrack through headphones since you don’t have speakers yet?

If so, why not just get an adapter to connect the RCA (red and white) outputs to a 3.5 headphone jack and listen that way.
This would avoid any issues with trying to use the MAC soundcard.

Also, if you aren’t headphone cue’ing you could just plug the headphones in the front of the mixtrack and flip the knob from CUE to PGM to listen to the master output and avoid using the adapter.

I have a mixtrack pro and had a similar problem. Heres what I did.

1.) Open up Preferences in Traktor (Gear at the top or press Command + , )
2.) Go to audio setup and change the audio device to Mixtrack Pro
3.) For sound coming out of the headphones for cueing go to output routing and set the mixing mode to internal because you are not using a dedicated mixer.
4.) Then, put Output Master L to “Output L” and Master Output R to “Output R”.

And there you go! You should have sound coming out of your headphones now when they are cued.
