Hi and welcome!
Well you are doing it right. The love for music and the passion to entertain is the most important skill of a DJ, everything else is secondary.
I would advise against a record pool if you are doing it like this. Think class over mass. Buying 1-10 songs a month is more than enough for most serious DJs that already have a collection and this is mostly easier for 99cent on iTunes than a 30 bucks DJ pool.
