i wanted a controller for the exact same reasons ..its was getting a pain lugging 2x1210s DJM 600 and all the vinyl up and down the stairs to do parties with …so i got myself ad pioneer DDJ-SB …its their entry level one ..fairly basic ..but does have 3 band EQ controls..easy to get used to ..but it does run serato intro ..which is ok the only thing is it don’t have a record function ..unless you upgrade the software …but at the moment when we do parties it all goes through a mixer and a recording taken from there with a roland R-05 so get good quality from that

Having used Twitch for years this may be a bit biased but I absolutely LOVE it and does exactly what you are after. I can slip in my backup along with my laptop so size is perfect. In terms of control, simple 2 deck control (as long as you don’t mind touch strips, but i personally find them very easy to use). 8-cues / drum pads for each deck for samples, effects etc plus it has mic & aux inputs should you want them

You won’t get the same feel as the S2, i personally think the knobs and faders feel more firm + you have the traktor integration, but I stand by twitch 100%, perfect for portable DJing! I’d imagine as its been out for a while now you can probably get it for cheaper, got mine for £300 and that was 2 years ago

    Hope this helps

Thanks for all the replies guys. I really do like the look of the Twitch so may try getting one second hand to save some £

Anyone had any experience of using the Faderfox controllers?

1st do not get the Behringer, it is bogus.
The Twitch is really fun if you can live with no jogs, which for most turntable guys is a big issue.
As far as small and well build controllers go I can recommend the MC2000 from Denon. It is more pricey but it is built like a tank.
If you like small and combined controllers the new Akai Serato controllers (see our main webpage) are really cool.

I used only the small faderfox mixer (no midi) and it was really well build. I still use it from time to time to mix the outputs of my controller with my Maschine.

I would wait if you have the money, companies are pushing towards that and I bet a million that next namm is going to be filled with all in one systems. If you want something now and/or dont have the money, I used a Stanton SCS.4 for a while and I loved it. They just updated the software too so im sure its even better

To the guy above, perhaps I should’ve specified, by an all-in-one controller I mean two ‘decks’ and a mixer in one unit, not bothered about built-in software since very few controllers have this atm. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, definitely leaning towards the Twitch. As this would be a secondary setup for small / impromptu parties I’m pretty sure I can live without jogs. Been wanting to try out touchstrips fora while now anyway 🙂

I had an ION iDJ2GO (the iOS version of the Numark DJ2GO) for a year and a half as my first controller before I upgraded. It was basic and didn’t have any EQ, FX, filters, or even looping onboard, but I mapped two of the top knobs to be bass EQs and the other two to be filters, and I also mapped the two pitch bend buttons on either side (which are massively irrelevant seeing there is a jogwheel there, and it’s not really made for scratching as it’s only 2″ and not touch sensitive) to be me loop in and out for + and – respectively. Not sure how remapping is done in Traktor, but I’ve heard it is harder to map than others.
