I would like to know the same. I have found some tutorials on youtube on how to set up samples and loops in Ableton but it seems so time intensive. Pete Tong legendary DJ that has been DJiing before I was born even stated so. There has to be an easier template to performing live.

Well I did not get along with ableton really.
I went for a NI Maschine and in there it is quite easy. You just load the whole song into the bank, go to sample mode and cut it in pieces that you assign to the trigger pads. I always however add sample pads (especially drumsets) from the Maschine sound library.
I am working on some sample videos, but since my schedule is a bit full atm it prolly will take until summer to finish them.

Instead of doing a video could you elaborate more here about how to set it up. I am sure that many on the forum would appreciate it.

I have the maschine mikro. For sampling you can go about it alot of different ways.
I have my sound card set up so I can sample any ting from my computer so I take record bits of songs I like and arrange them into banks in maschine.

    For example
    Maybe group 1) is vocals
group 2) are my kicks/snares and
group 3) recognizable parts of the song

Then you can literally cut it up even more and slice parts into smaller sections/isolate parts you want to keep/break the song apart basically into usually snippets. Pretty much decide what kind of song you want to make and start from there otherwise you’ll be starring at your screen all day.

Or like Terry said you can load the song into maschine and cut it into samples like there. I like maschine cause there’s a lot of different ways to do the same thing. Just find what works best for you. I also have my maschine mikro mapped to traktor for extra controls so it’s a pretty versatile piece of gear.

Alternatively you can get the f1 (I have as well) if you’re more into live remixes. You can capture loops live form the playing tracks and change it up on the sport. It works within traktor already so there’s no new software you need to learn. More so just deciding on the different ways you want to use it.

I would check out this video below from dj endo on his tutorial on using the F1. Pretty simple piece of gear but you can do alot with it.

My method differs a little from Terrys, but I use Maschine as well. I use Audacity w/ the LAME mp3 encoder, cut the sample, convert to .wav, then upload the sample all ready to go in maschine. Yes, I suck at programming bass kicks, and yes, I may have borrowed some kicks from headhunterz/wildstylez/bassmodulators………..don’t judge me! XD.

Well basically if you have maschine you should go through ALL the NI tutorial videos step by step.
Yes some of them seem obvious and boring, but they PAY OFF in the end greatly.

Next step: Learn how to load a complete song into maschine and how to cut it into pieces with the sample encoder knob.
When you have the sample you like cut out then you can simply assign it to a pad as with all sounds you get from the library. (So know the tutorials as I cannot describe this without showing in detail.)
I usually fill the bottom pads with basic drums, most left is bass, then snare, then the other stuff you like. But this is also how you like your fingerdrum patterns. Friend of mine prefers patterns of squares for his drums etc.
So do a pad arrangement you feel comfy with.

I would hugely suggest you learn how to fingerdrum with the standard maschine library before you attempt this and can do everything the tutorials tell you.
