ModeratorOff the top of my head, I’d look for the Revo’s from ADJ. Get a hazer too, LeMaitre is a good brand with decent pricing and some units geared for small to medium venues. Don’t get smoke. I had one and after three times stopped using it. Too much complaints from the crowd because of smell/smoke, from the owner because of the smoke alarm and from the cleaning staff claiming a residu. Also fog goes up real fast and is gone even faster. Haze on the other hands will have a much longer “hang time” and is also relatively sparse in liquid use. The effect of you light beams being visible because of the haze enhances your light show by many factors.
There is a very good 3-part (I think) article on the blog by Terry_42. It’s a must read when you are in your position, frankly.
Good luck and greetinx.

ParticipantMy first purchase after some wash lights was the ADJ quad phase hp. I got it open box for $150. Even though I’m not usually a fan of moving dot lights, this looks awesome with haze. With or without dmx it has some great programs. Plus, it can have the mirror ball effect for slow songs.
As stated above, the Revo III is a great light (even better if you have two linked together).

ModeratorYeah, another option seen a lot in forums is the Revo III on the ceiling and a Revo 4 on the crowd/floor.

ParticipantYep, linking the two Revo’s is pretty cool!
Chuck, where are these decent priced LeMaitre haze machines? The cheapest I found was $1200… I got 2 moving heads for less than that. I really really really need to buy a haze machine but the cheap chauvet hurricane haze 2D doesn’t seem reliable, and the 3D doesn’t have any reviews.

ModeratorLet me check, I talked to the Belgium distributor in Frankfurt in March. Should have their info around here somewhere. Should be able to do it this afternoon. Think they had two compact ones (with plenty of power for my purpose (50-150 or so people)) for decent prices. Somewhere in the 300-400 range if I am not mistaken.

Participantaside from the wash fixtures I have(plan to add more), I have a pair of Mini Kinta and really like them, also I have a 4Play CL and like it a lot. I hope to add to this show and plan to add DMX control, and a host of other things, but for now I’m focusing on more wash/uplighting and DMX, oh, and a gobo projector… just my .02, but I found a good variety of videos on YouTube that helped me in my selections… let us know what you’re up to and keep us posted …. Participantwhats the main difference between the Revo 3 and 4? Also do you think a mega bar is needed with these lights?

ModeratorI must have been mistaken on the prices of the LeMaitre Hazers. Can’t seem to find them under 800 now. Lost the business card I had for the guys in Belgium, so can’t check.
I think the Revo 4 has more shows (12 versus 4 or 6 or so) but also less coverage and needs haze to look good. The 3 is more allround with better coverage and looks good without haze too. So you might opt for two 3’s as well.
With the advent of the new DOTZ series, I would not go for the older version bar’s and such anymore. The amount of light, the color intensity and the looks of the COB-based (chip on board) lights is truely a step up. The 4-2 brick (not sure what the exact name is, but two rows of 4 lights) even comes with barndoors I believe.
Greetinx.

KeymasterYes the Revo 4 is more beam like and the gobos are more pointy. So it covers less dancefloor per unit but has more F/X.
The Revo 3 has a wider angle and so covers more dancefloor per unit (I often only use one) and it looks brilliant without haze/smoke. But it has much less flashy F/X.June 11, 2014 at 2:09 pm #2036822Annakyn
ParticipantThe reports i’ve had are there 4’s have more f/x but not as good overall certainly not as bright.
I’m thinking 2x Dortz floods, and 1 x Revo 3, plus haze machine to begin with, what do you think?

KeymasterThat sounds pretty good to me for starters.
