I’ve had this, was for a birthday party in a pub. I practice regularly so for me last minute isn’t really an issue. I like to keep my sets as close as I can to what I do when I’m at home anyway so no big deal to only get a few hours preparation. I like to feed off the crowd not pre-prepare.

I take last minute shows all the time. In fact, I make sure other dj’s and local bar managers know that I live just a couple of minutes away so I often get calls when someone is sick or just doesn’t show up. You’ll get forgiven for everything not being 100% because they are just so happy to have you show up at all. Basically, no matter what you do, you look like a hero.

Yep had this happen a bunch of times. You should try to be on top of your music collection and playlists so that its not too daunting. Unless its a large scale event that’s being scrutinized heavily, I wouldn’t be too worried.

The worst thing is when you cant do it because you’re away, which just happened to me now!

I was tucking into a nice fish pie with the family 100 miles from my club once when I got the call – the other resident was ill, I was the only person who could fill in, and I had to go back.

Worst thing was, it was a classics night – so I had to go home, sort out all my tunes, then get to the venue. I was still sorting my set out in piles of vinyl on the dancefloor of the venue when the first people arrived in the club!

It was, in the end, a brilliant night – but I never did get to eat that lovely home-made fish pie…

i know this sounds completely unprofessional but. i’d say for laughs, just hold that against your club’s boss.

all gigs i had are last mins , what a luck lol i feel terible and mad before doing them but i end up doing good work 😀
but still hate the last minutes gig

for me it was like , a friend calling me tonight at 9pm so tomorow at 3 pm i should do i gig , WTFFF
i end up not sleeping 24 hours , making playlists and sh** for that particular gig , dust off the gear and cleaaning it , testing everything , filling my backpack with extra cables and Plan B music cds and Usbs….etc

so lately, i have a solution , i prepared my self so i can be prepared even if sombody want me for a gig THIS MOMENT not even tomorrow 😀 , music playlists always updated cued and everything , Plan A and B ( in case of rekordbox crash , and it never happend at gig for me , i can have USB , if USB have some error , then a CD is already in deck ) so its just a matter of buttons , and always i have 3 times the music i need , and i never play music by some order , just by intuition
