Is it brand new? Or have you been using it for a while?

Only suggestions is to download and run CCleaner, and then defrag the hard drive.

Check to see if you have loads of stuff running in the background. Smitten wrote a piece of optimizing for Windows here:

Look for and uninstall bloatware. All those free and useless programs many manufacturers put into Windows machines that do more to slow down computers than help.

Make sure you are up to date with Windows. I’ll also check security settings and even run my DJ program as an administrator so it can use the full power of the OS. I know recently I had to start running Firefox as an Administrator because the OS would not let me run Silverlight for Netflix without it. Same deal with Photoshop.

I give them credit for all the added security, but it can be a nuisance on the seasoned techie.

Good…so my advice is fully relevant (I use Windows 7 as well).

It really sounds like you have stuff running in the background that’s clogging it all up. I usually make sure to have a purchased version of Windows that I can install…so my install is clean and free of junk many manufacturers put into their discs that they include.

I also will sometimes turn off the wifi. Once had my computer lagging, only to find out it was trying to download updates behind my back, as well as syncing my Dropbox. That stuff can be done when you’re not DJing.

Beyond that…running Traktor (or in your case Serato) as an Administrator and keeping a clean system will do you fine. In reality, you’re running your laptop the way a Mac works. No bloatware, no unnecessary junk.

Let me know how it all works out.

I’d also look into the temperatures of the GPU and CPU. If laptops get too hot with full cooling on they usually turn down the power automatically. Make sure there’s no dust blocking the cooling vents.

    OH YES! Forgot about heating.

I bought a cooling tray long ago and I never gig without it. Had my laptop freezing on me many times until I realized it was very hot.

Hot sweaty clubs and bars are not ideal for electronics.
