Macs are simply expensive PCs with a different OS. Same parts, same sweat shop labour.

I think you have to look at it like this:

If you could buy a mac for 400 € it would be more or less equally crap compared to a same value windows laptop.

If you buy a windows laptop for the same price (and with the same specs as a mac) it can run about as smooth.

I’m not speaking out of dj-ing experience but out of a normal user experience. Until last year I always had a windows laptop (always hp). Last year I bought a mac because I needed final cut for my studies etc…

I really like how my mac works, but then again i’m almost 100% sure that I would have the same love for a windows laptop running the same specs.
(battery performance included: My macbook really lasts forever “until now”. Don’t underestimate this but battery life = longer life for yourself cause you stress less πŸ™‚ )

But I live by one strict rule: Don’t do bad things to your laptop

I’ve seen really slow mac’s, crashing their browsers and so on…
Likewise for pc’s (and maybe a bit more but that’s just because you have a wider variety of configurations for windows based laptop’s).

It’s actually really simple and you could compare it to humans: the more crack you use the worse you’ll get.
    – Don’t click on things you don’t know <=> you don’t eat things you think could contain a virus
    – Don’t use cracked software (I know, it’s really hard not to) <=> I advise you not to use crack
    – Don’t use your laptop for everything and if you do keep in mind that the more you’ll make your laptop work, the more load you’ll give: the more services it will keep running and the slower it will get <=> Try working 24h/24h
    πŸ™‚

    and so on

To give you an example: my desktop is always clean, the only programs running are the ones I use, I don’t have programs installed that I never use, I make sure I have enough space left on my SSD etc… (I did the same with my windows laptops: I never used an antivirus or firewall cause I really didn’t need it)

I also think that almost every laptop is replaceable after 4 years (mac and windows)

    —————-

The os is different and works different, you have to know that windows gives you more tweaking possibility’s and thus gives you more to go wrong…

    —————-

If you do want to use it for everything (like using it to flatten your pizza dough) just know that in the end both systems will fail (and knowing that windows is more vulnerable due to the fact it was/is more represented it might be it’ll fail faster…)

    —————

Besides that, and without being pro apple (I wish I could buy everything for 1€ and think the Iphone is overpriced for it’s specs), I really like how my Mac works.

    MacBook Air: Base price 1.199,00
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air?product=MJVG2LL/A&step=config

    Comparable specs to:
    HP EliteBook Folio G2
    Base Price: 1.229,00

    But has:
    – Less SSD space in base model
    – Still some plastic in case and screen
    – Worse battery life
    – more fans

    Why I compare those 2?
I have both (my day job is in an IT company) and I know both are good laptops and I could prolly DJ using the HP and be OK with it. But I still have the disadvantages above and driver hassle due to Windows… so I opted for the Air.

ItΒ΄s a good comparison, because the Elite-Book Folio is, basically, an Air clone.

PCs and Macs nowadays shares most of the technology but saying that “Macs are simply expensive PCs with a different OS” with “same parts” is just untrue. In fact, different PCs donΒ΄t have “same parts” Only model identical to each others do. Are LCD panels, fans, processors, memory sticks and drives the same stuff ? Often, in the same range. Are cases, ports, logic boards or trackpads the same? Nope.
Once we reach the Mac vs. PC loop we are done, because cliches will flow over. πŸ˜‰

After going through all you professional people’s discussions …I have made a small hole in my pocket to buy a APPLE MACBOOK πŸ™‚

THe main reason was while I was checking the net…MY wife’s New Laptop got hung as it was updating something in the background…

I got just a goosebump what if it happens on a DJ shows….I will be showered with whatever the audience find in their hand…

Macbook Air MJVE2HN/A for a price of Rs. 72,000/- which is $1,155.60

It was difficult to decide as we used to get Laptops with very good almost triple configuration, at Rs. 24,000/- which is $385.00

However going through all the analysis and your expert advise going with MACBOOK….and I am a proud owner of one now.

Please advise how to keep my Macbook unharmed from CRASHES now….as if it crashes I will be just done with DJing…

    @ Terry_42

    Whoops, sorry about that! πŸ˜€

    @ DJ Paramor

Did you see my crack comment? (I thought it was funny and it’s good advice) πŸ™‚
    Also:
    – No X-rated websites
    – No dodgy websites (crack etc)
    – Clean desktop
    – Enough free space on SSD
    – Don’t install things you don’t need
    – Restart your laptop once in a while

But if you’ll only use it for Dj-ing that should be fine.

==> Make sure it’s your laptop: don’t let anyone else use it :p

@Yves Creten: Thank you so so much. I will surely do that πŸ™‚

But can I download songs from Beatpro etc to the Macbook directly or shall I have to do it on my Laptop or PC and then transfer the data to the MAcbook or Do I need to keep my Macbook empty for ever to avoid any Crash Incident…

    Please advise…

    Thanks πŸ™‚

    *shrug*
I’ll take my PC at less than half the price thanks. It’s never crashed or had any other problems. Apple make nice stuff, but they’re a lot like Pioneer in that they’re massively overpriced for what you get.
True, some PCs do approach the same price point but I would hazard that they’re overpriced too.

    I agree with Stazbumpa

    Igts sad…for $1000 ..I am gtting only 128 Storage and 4GB RAM…

Its sad…But I guess…Its because of less Virus attraction and more Reputation…

BUT THE PRICE trully makes me sad….

I just hope that IN THE LONG RUN…APPLE MACBOOK will give me the RETURN…

Ok, I think we have had our bi-monthly “who’s better” discussion a.k.a. Windows/Apple debate.

Let’s close this. All has been said for now.

@Paramor: Gratz with the MacBook. Enjoy it and let us know how you get on with it.
