Still to this day wondering why these “splitter” cables ever came to existence….Its 2013 for christ’s sake…Mono? Really? They are a joke, IMHO!

Frankly I dont even listen to music on iStuff nor through my laptop speakers – and Im dead serious about it. Even if I receive a promo during working on my laptop I wait till I get to my studio and listen through proper speakers. 😉

….and then I read all the stuff about how MP3s are bad quality and I just lough….Listening through shitty systems is, for me, way more severe than listening to 320kbps mp3s.

    >_> splitters are for DJs who might not be able to right now afford a soundcard and have a sufficient audio card integrated with their laptop and maybe don’t need as great sound quality.Such as my self,i’d be wasting money paying for a sound card when i DJ small parties where people barely listen to the music.

I’d say the splitter, you can get them cheap off ebay for around £2 and it splits the sound into two outputs from your laptop.. I had one of those usb soundcards and they are cheaply made and break (mine did bad times) so i’d say go for the cable.. Also most of the free programs that split the sound for the usb cards don’t work so i would highly recommend the cable unless you want to invest £80 on a dj soundcard..

And still in 90% of the really big clubs: Their whole sound system goes into a nice stereo mixer, is mixed down into a mono channel, then goes into a mono line amp system and then is blasted in full quality mono to the array of speakers….

True that….but in any case, if we are to also include the problems that arise from poor drivers of built-in soundcards (for audio real-time applications) such as big latency, I’d strongly recommend to anyone trying to dabble with DJing to save money and get a cheap but quality DJ-dedicated soundcard. NI’s Audio 2 (I believe it is now named Traktor 2) is less than 100 euros. I know it may seem like a lot of cash for a guy who just wants to sart up a hobby (or a young fellah trying to make ends with his/her parents money) but the truth is I never, as a kid, had any hobby requiring less money. Go see the prices of a skateboard or of a football and a pair of football shoes. 😉
My personal opinion is that AT LEAST 100 euros to be spent on a “real” soundcard is nothing compared to the amount of money a DJ would need 10 years ago (hobbyist or not). There really is no excuse….again IMHO – and believe me, Im not in the upper-class of my country economically, barely middle!

You are of course totally right there. If you can shelf out the cash, always go for the right gear and the NI Audio 2/Traktor 2 is a cheap alternative and will give you a Traktor License.

LOL. Very true that. Too much problems running a massive stereo setup in a big club. And not too much (danceable) music features nice stereo sweep effects. Besides if you are in the middle of a square or round dancefloor, what would be left or right … people are facing any direction. So left/right may be right/left for the person in front of you and front/back for the person next to you :-=)

I recently bought a Griffin splitter cable as a backup for whenever my Reloop Mixage IE would break down during a party.
However I can’t get it to work with Traktor Pro version 1.something

I assumed that in Traktor Pro it would be possible to split outputs but apparently there isn’t. Does anyone have suggestions for a workaround, or was this just bad decision-making on my part?
Would it work in Traktor 2 for instance? Thanks for your advice

I honestly cannot remember the Traktor 1.x days… so I cannot comment on that.

But yes it works to configure a splitter cable in Traktor 2.x

That cheap little external sound card at the start of this thread?  It’s really cheap. It works.  However, that caused some latency on a real gig.  Fortunately, I only used that for headphones so the audience is not hearing any of the latency from it.  And it’s annoying having to pull out from and reinsert it on the USB port several times in a night.

I suggest a Behringer U-Control UCA-200 or UCA 202 or UCA 222 (any one of the three will do).  It’s not as cheap as that little thing but it’s not expensive enough to break the bank and it’s worth the upgrade specially if you’re on a budget.

And get yourself an ASIO4ALL.  It should solve most of your latency problems.
